But you will be Piglet!
Don't forget that since that song was performed 70 has become the new 60.

I remember seeing the first airing of Mason Williams' Classic Gas. It was on the Andy Williams Show and the video to the sound was a 1/2 second flash of all the classic paintings throughout history. That had to be about 1968 as my flatmate and I had rented a big colour television and we watched in glorious 525 line colour.

We all went to cafes then. usually about half a dozen of us with our girlfriends who wore miniskirts ( not torn jeans and combat gear like now.) and we played the jukebox for ages. Rock ola I think was the make of it. 1 record for sixpence and 3 for a shilling. We sat and drank coke all night....now they sniff coke..changed days indeed never to return. I remember my first fag..God I thought I was dying.
A 45 ( for younger folks was a record ) cost 3/8d and I had a Dansette record player. I remember buying a new record and playing it over and over again. must have worn a few out.
My favourite record of all time in the 60s was The Shadows "Theme for young lovers." Went with a cracking bit of gear then..wonder what ever happened to her. Anyway must go to work now. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I can think of a couple...
Del Shannon - Runaway
Neil Sedaka - Oh Carol
My sister was a big fan. I also remember Lou Christies 'Lightning Strikes' & probably my all time favourite pop song, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap - Young Girl.
I was quite young during the sixties, but the radio & the stereo were played so often, I got to hear it all. _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!

| Just reading these made me wonder - apart from the late 50's and Buddy Holly, was there any decent music other than the 60's? All my cars have 60's cd's in them - I don't play anything else - which drives my son (who is 30) crackers when he has to travel anywhere with me. |

To begin, I'd just like to say that I've spent thirty years searching for alternative music to that which you hear mostly on the radio.
If you get the chance, check out a band called Camel, not to be confused with Peter Frampton's Camel.
Recording since 1972, their last album being released just 3 or 4 years ago, this band has delivered some of my fondest musical moments. Admittedly I am a bit of a guitar fan, but the guy in Camel, Andy Latimer, has a very unique style & tends to retain a lot of beautiful melodies aswell as gorgeous tones in his playing.
The band has a style that is passionate, peerless & professional. With their roots in soft rock, many other influences can be heard, including Classical & Jazz. They never really had a strong vocal & relied more on their musicianship to create some flawless instrumentals. Great driving music too.
Albums to look out for would be Harbour Of Tears, The Snow Goose, Rajaz, Moon Madness, Mirage or Dust & Dreams. They have many, many more available, but these ones are my personal favourites.
Highly recommended.
On the other hand, if you like Zeppelin, Hendrix, Eric Clapton or Rock/Blues in general, it might be in your interest to listen to some stuff by a young American by the name of Joe Bonamassa. Whilst he has 7 recordings available, his album 'A New Day Yesterday' (named after the Jethro Tull track) would be a real good starting point. Gutsy, guitar-based rock/blues & good to drive to.
Again, highly recommended.
I was going to stop there, but you've hit on my other great passion besides cars - music - so I'll continue if you don't mind.
He isn't everybody's cup of tea, but Van Morrison has released untold albums, most of which feature some of the best musical arrangements you will ever hear. Moondance is a classic album with some tunes that you will be humming for days, along with others such as Wavelength & Hard Nose The Highway. Just remember that the guy went solo at the height of the hippie era.
America, to me, are one of the most under-rated bands ever. Their self-titled album and another called Silent Letter are jam packed with songs that could easily be mistaken for hits.
Barclay James Harvest have a few gems out there, too, such as Turn Of The Tide, Gone To Earth or one of my all-time favourites, Early Morning Onwards. Again, the tunes are in your head for days after.
When I feel in a mellow mood, I have a few albums that really hit the spot for me. These include:
John Martyn - Solid Air or One World
Tommy Emmanuel - Only
Dizrhythmia
Mofro - Lochloosa
Tangerine Dream - Ricochet or White Eagle
There is so much wonderful music out there that you'll probably never hear, it's a shame. _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!

For modern music, what about Moco? Theres nothing wrong with any band that writes lyrics such as ''Early Liz Hurley, give us a twirly'' |

On the subject of music, do you know that the Performing Rights Society is tenaciously pursuing small firms to buy a £65 licence if more than one person can hear the radio. Our company has only one permanent employee and we have the radio on to be aware of traffic conditions etc, a non music channel? forget it! they play jingles and that also counts.
Where it may affect us is: Will they make the same rules apply in cars, if you give a colleague a lift, or if the music is playing outside a premises and the window is open so others can hear it? the ramifications are endless.
Just keep the volume down in your garage thats all!!! |

Any way they can get money out of you they will try it.....Who are these killjoys anyway.
I also have countless CDs and cassettes from the sixties but a lot I have copied myself from my collection as some of the more obscure ones are not available on compilation albums. There were some weird and wonderful No1 hits then.....how about,,,
Zorbas dance.
Mozart 40.
Song of joy.
Tokyo melody.
In the year 2525.
A walk in the Black Forest.
Cast your fate to the wind.
Sugar Sugar.
the list goes on..................
KEEP THE OFF TOPIC.....JUST BAN POLITICS. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |
