we get Top Gear somewhat later over here; the episodes seem very out of sync with actual automotive goings-on, but my question begs the point:
regarding the treatment Clarkson et al dole out to the cars they "showcase", who in their right mind would allow them (him especially, since he delights in destruction) to drive their cars?

not that the show isn't without humour; i find it very entertaining and actually quite informative even if somewhat out of sync.

I guess anyone who is interested in cars wants something entertaining to drive and in that regard Clarkson and Co. are totally in tune with a good proportion of potential car buyers.

If a manufacturer chooses to ignore Clarkson and Co. then they cut themselves off from a large sector of potential sales.

As to the humour I think most people get a laugh when he describes a steering wheel as feeling like a bath mat and know that this sort of criticism is hardly fundamental to purchase decisions.

Clarkson comes across like a hyper-active boy racer that's never going to grow up, but that's probably what the producers want. Wonder what he's like in real life, anyone know? Confused

Anyone who has such a smart old Merc, and often refers back to a 3.0 CSL he once owned, can't be all bad .. perhaps a little self-opinionated Wink, but at least he speaks his mind Smile

I think he is a good presenter on all most any subject and as previously said, it is what the producers want. Nobody gives tuppence for my opinions on anything, but he is paid well for his. Laughing

DH, I'm sure that if we could legally coerce the population into paying £139.50 for this forum, whether they watched it or not (as the BBC do) you would be handsomely paid for your opinions. Wink

Clarkson, ...top bloke he is an entertainer who you will either like or not, if top gear was in the same format as it was 10 years ago know one would watch it, unless you wanted to go to sleep Very Happy , today its a show not to be missed that attracts an audience who would normally have no interest in cars............that said he should convince Vicky H-B to come back Wink

I think there is something sexy about a woman who can handle a car like Vicky. Who is the German blonde who raced the transit van? She was hot ! Wink and could she drive. I need to go for a lay down. Rolling Eyes
