Why was Tiller steering taken over by what we have now, I want to learn more about how it worked, etc.. Does anyone know of any good websites or even think they can give me any info from memory on the subject?

Wouldn't it be great to convert a car back to tiller steering, slightly non original, but could be a fun trying and also driving it when it is done! Is it still legal to put on modern/ classic cars, i.e later cars than them that used it orriginally?

Cheers

buzzy, I'm only guessing at this, but I suspect that it was replaced simply because it became to much of a stretch to turn a tight circle.

There are two things that I can tell you for certain (well, almost!). The first car with a steering wheel was a Packard, trust the yanks to invent something practical! The other is that there are still some road vehicles in use today with Tiller steering, if you know which ones to look at!

Hi

I know tiller steering is a modification for use by some disabled drivers, but would be interested in knowing which ones you are thinking of?

My mate has quite a few cars with tiller steering, but they are all old! I have allways been drawn towards it maybe because it is not very common now and is a bit out of the ordinary, like me!! Laughing

Cheers

I was thinking of some US ladder trucks, you know, the lo-ong ones, but I may just be wrong!
