This is not strictly motor related other than it affects my ability to quickly access my favourite motoring websites.
I was recently seduced by an advert promising UP TO 8mbps on my broadband, if I leave BT and get my line rental from them. There were some other savings as well.
Go live date was a couple of weeks ago but no increase on the 2.3 mbps I already had. Just phoned them and was directed to an Asian call centre, after being shuffled from one to another department I was told my line is not capable of handling more than 2.3 mbps.

Caveat emptor. Watch out for the 'weasel words...' UP TO!'

I'll just have to be patient when loading photos from shows. Crying or Very sad

Yep I agree they should be more clear that its a maximum, the reasons are that you are on some shared circuits ,so they can not predict what the other folk are up too, and the fact that the quality of wiring in individual houses will vary considerably given it was designed for speech which requires about 50K bandwidth and we are getting 100x that these days.

That said if you compare what broadband costs compared with the same speed guaranteed circuits that businesses use, its a fraction of the price….. so you pay you money....

Was in Germany last week talking to a bloke who gets all his TV via a broadband link, they have guaranteed speed of I think he said 60M, no doubt we will have it soon (ish)

Thanks Dave. There would seem to be a ceiling for the 'getting older and wiser' saying. Perhaps I've hit it. Confused
Will look forward to the increase in bandwidth, but not hold my breath.

I was always having problems with AOL what with running slow etc. but since moving to TalkTalk recently I have had no such problems and its a lot cheaper.
