I will also be there as Joe Public for the first time in years because it is pre75 only
As a club we are united... All go or none go and there are a few clubs in the same frame of mind as us.
We will be taking notes of any post 75 cars there _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

On Sunday the rally field was half empty and there were quite a few post 75 cars on show and the weather was lousy.....hell mend them _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

That's disappointing about numbers attending, and whilst the new cut off date must have had an impact the weather would be an influencing factor as well.
I've "done" a Biggar in the pouring rain and its pretty grim - 6 hours stuck in a car isn't a great way to spend a day. Not to mention just how grotty your car gets between the crushed wet grass, mud on your feet and road dirt all over the car and then the time spent getting it back to a clean condition both inside and out has me avoiding events when its like this.
Regardless of my views regarding the weather the organisers didn't do themselves any favours imposing a rule that appears to have broken on its first event because the attendance was so poor. So its no surprise you feel hard done to and it must make you wonder just how many of the organising committee were signed up to the pre-75 rule?
Perhaps a well worded letter from your club (and any other clubs / individuals effected by the rule) to the committee raising the subject again might have them revisiting the decision. To me, the key here is demonstrating how this rule resulted in an unstatisfactory situation not only from the reduced attendance point of view, but also by marshalls allowing post-75 vehicles onto the ground because they were short of exhibits.

It was my first rally as a competitor and I had a blast on the regularity run. I found many of the 'competitors very unfriendly and unwilling to chat about their cars even to the point where I was blanked by some of the Albion owners when I tried to chat to them about coach-painting.
Overall I thought the organisation was excellent with all the marshalls being friendly and helpful and everyone was smiling. The weather forecast was not great but apart from 1 or 2 showers it was a very nice day. The Autojumble was a pile of junk though.
I felt that many of the clubs and car owners could have made a little more effort in making signs to give a bit more background on the cars (I was also guilty of this - I ran out of time) which would have made it more interesting. I felt that prizes were given out to 'known' faces rather than deserving cases. In the Veteran Class a vintage Model T in very poor condition won without explanation of why. If it was the regularity run, then I did precisely the speed expected but seemed not to be considered (I'm awaiting an explanation).
Overall the experience was a very positive one with plenty to do and see and my only suggestion would be for competitors to all wear a badge so when you're cruising around asking questions you are less likely to be ignored! _________________ Richard |

We went up to the show (wife, father-in-law, sister and brother-in-law) hoping for good weather and apart from one shower it was a great day.
The show field did have a few empty spaces - probably people worried about the weather - but I thought it was a great day, and there was tons to look at.
I loved the Albion trucks and found most were happy to chat - although there was a bit of a us and them mentality.
Will definitely go back, hopefully with the Chevy in 2009. |

Hi
Any pics of this Event, any early Albions?
I have been in a simmilar position, totally ignored, when at a rally, as I am younger, and maybe being seen as he can't be interested. Having the Ford has more or less changed this, people now see I have an interest, and take me a little more seriously. I have to add some people have allways been great, but everyone should be nice, if you have an exibit or not.
Cheers

My camera ran out of batteries half way through - and I seem to have been pre-occupied by the tractors, trying to convince myself I need one
Here is a link to a movie of my pics, with a few Albions, and a superb little Morris van.

Hi,
I think its a real shame that they have put a pre 1975 rule in place. I wonder what the average age is of the committee who decided this?
I was talking to my 14 year old son about this and his comment was that a 1975 car was "ancient"- he thought 1980 was old. If we are to encourage younger people into our hoby we must acknowledge that cars that , for example, are 20 years old are "old cars" to a 25 year old. My own passion is for cars from the 60's the decade I was born.
I agree with the stance taken by the car clubs which include cars that are pre 1975.
The orginisers must want to restrict numbers, although I have never seen the show field full. They may also find it restricts paying vistor numbers as the appeal will be limited and it can not be good for the long term
Its that age old classic - whats a classic!! |
