Near enough Peter, its the 700. Send me your name and address in a PM, and the prize will be posted to you.

As Brian has also given the correct answer, the same applies to him...

The answers to the riddle are as follows:

''In my own country I am wet'' wet refers to water, which is found in a river. In Munich, there is a river called the Isar. Googo is french slang for something unpleasant. Isar is the dutch word for foolish. ''People see throgh me'' refers to Glas, which is the swedish word for glass. In the UK,the model was known as Royal, ie someone who lives at Buckingham Palace, Sandringham, or Balmoral. In Australia, they were known as Go-go's, ie a dancer....

After initially being called Goggomobil Isar T700, the final name that this car was called was Glas Isard T700, to avoid the above!

UJ

Fiendishly clever, and without the other thread I would suggest impossible to decipher.

And then I get beaten by 2 minutes!

Well done Peter!

I am away next week on the wife's annual Paris shopping trip, so you have 10 days to work out another one. At my age I need these challenges to keep the brain active!

Congratulations to you too Brian. Without you detecting UJ's picture title the job would have been much more difficult. We're definitely joint winners.

I had thought of Glas much earlier but had dismissed it because my language skills were limited to those of Google translate.

Fool or foolish just translates to dwaas. When I Googled Glas I didn't get much so Isar never cropped up for me but even if it had, the Dutch to English translation for isar is....isar!.

Thanks for posting the riddle UJ. You are very welcome to my address if you are ever visiting Edinburgh but there's no need to mail me a prize.

Keep us posted on the Goggo restoration. You do like the extremes of motoring. Wink

Peter, you are more than welcome to the prize, I'd obtained enough for 3 winners.

Starting when I collect the Goggo, I'll post a new topic...

Quite a bit different from the baby Goggos of the late 50's I learnt to drive in one of these - 300cc aircooled 2 stroke dynastarter, rack & pinion steering and 10" wheels before BMC Mini thought of them. The big domed hub caps for these wheels were held behind the wheel rim and could only be removed when the wheel nuts were undone Shocked Front opening doors although mid 60's versions became front hinged

The petrol tank was behind the rear seat and gravity fed via on/of/reserve tap on the rear parcel shelf.

Obtained a scrap one for spares and cut-up the body which was quite thick steel

I saw pictures of the big luxury one but never seen it in real life - they must be really rare Question

In early September, there is a classic car meeting in Hamburg, called Stadtsparkrennen. Two or three of the V8 Glas (Goggos) usually attend. As far as this one I've found is concerned, there are two or three about. but not many.

There seems to be a very tight cameraderie between owners, I've already been offered (without cost) an original german language workshop manual, as well as a flower vase for the windscreen in either porcelain or glass! My choice! So which one should it be?

Amazing!

If memory serves (doubtful), weren't Glas the first to use toothed rubber cam belts?

I only found this out myself through researching for the Goggo. Yes they were the first to fit them to a mass produced vehicle, in 1950.

For the member that can answer this question correctly, there will be a little prize of the most sold cars in Sweden!

Thanks UJ, your prize arrived safely today. A very tasty little Swedish car. Very Happy. That should keep me in Swedish cars for quite some time.

Peter.

p.s. For those of you who wondered what the most sold car in Sweden is, it comes in a 160gm packet accompanied by at least 100 other chewies. Very Happy
