I saw this unusual looking machine at Onslow Park the other week. I assume there's a Jowett lurking under that bodyshell, but anyone know what the story is with this car, badged as a Javelin Jupiter.

Javelin-Jupiter was the early name and badging that Jowett used for the Jupiter. I think they dropped the Javelin bit once the car grew an identity of its own.
Jowett made the jupiter rolling chassis available to body builders and several companies built bodies for it, the one in your photo is one of them. I am at work right now and cannot recall the body builder. Almost all of the special; bodied cars are, in my opinion inferior to the in house body, the possible exception being the Farina bodied car, an example of which is fully restored in immaculate condition in Yeovil.
I wii dig out the body builder and post for you later.

Ahh thanks Paul, the look of the car, exterior door and bonnet hinges etc does give it the air of a Special, or at least something coachbuilt. I'd never seen the Javelin Jupiter badge before, I'll have to keep an eye open for it.
