Colin sent this question over the other day, I don't know if I have the figures for the Somerset as I'm not sure if it was heavier or lighter than the Devon. Does anyone know??

ta, Rick

Hi
I am not sure if you can help, I have an Austin A40 Somerset and I have
fitted a four point mount, coil over shockers rear axle on her.
I was wondering if you had come across this before maybe in some rods or
muscle car versions and maybe had an idea of the rear weighjt of the car so
I can work out the spring weights required. At the moment I have fitted 185
pound springs to her but I think these are far too heavy for the weight of
the car, I am thinking of maybe dropping to 100 or 125 pounds springs and I
was wondering if you have any thoughts or ideas on this.
Thank you
Colin

A40 Somerset 1952 4 door converted to 2 door, v8 4 litre fitted up front, b.w. 65 auto box, Chevrolet rear axle, ladder chassis under original body, sacrilege I know but it was already done as I bought it for my girlfriend, visually still a pretty little car no silly big arches just de-seamed and sprayed violetta

I have the following figures for the Somerset:

GS4 19cwt
GD3 19cwt
GV4 18cwt
GP4 19 1/2cwt
GQU4 18 1/2cwt

and the same publication quotes the Devon and Dorset as:

Dorset car 18 1/2cwt
Dorset van 17 1/4cwt
Devon car 19cwt
