Page 18 of the Sept issue of Classic and Sportscar:

Earliest Transporter Lives

The restoration of an ex-Dennis Poore Dodge VK26B truck, built in Detroit in 1940 and thought to be the oldest original racing car transporter is nearing completion. The former RAF crew bus has been restored by website developer Richard Jones over 13 years.

I hope this wasn't your press release Rick- it would have been more accurate if it said that the truck is currently in more pieces than at any time since it was built, and that it had been stored by Rick for 12 of the 13 years!!

Hi all, if the old girl appears in any other mags, could you let me know please? I only get The Automobile on a regular basis, so if it appears in any other mags I'll probably miss it!

thanks

I think you're also in the October issue of Classic & Vintage Commercials - getting famous Smile

A good piece on getting the paint for the Dodge - although they do infer that it's all finished.

Let me know if you want a scan of the article.

ooo thanks for the heads-up, I'll see if I can find a copy, if not I'll tap you up for a scan Wink

I've got a copy of the original press release and it doesn't say or imply that the thing is actually finished yet, doh Rolling Eyes

cheers, R

I picked up a copy yesterday, not a bad little write-up Smile

This evening I wrote to a couple of newspapers in the area that the original owner used to live, in the 40s and 50s, to see if they'd mind publishing a request for info about the Dodge's former owner. With a bit of luck it could turn up some info from people who saw him race at Goodwood etc, hopefully the editors will say yes!

Hope you get a positive reply.

I like the intro from the new editor of CVC. He's looking to hear if readers are interested in American trucks - even the word 'truck' is a bit of a no-no in some circles Smile

yeah I was reading C&VC just now, he uses 'truck' an awful lot when referring to British lorries, as you say it'll wind up some of the establishment. He previously edited Classic Van and Pickup I think, I wasn't too sure about him then, he always seemed to be moaning about something, at least that was the impression I had Smile

I'd happily read more about US trucks Wink in the classic mags, anything pre-60 please Smile
