The guy heading the resto of the Dodge has been on the blower today. He's been making enquiries about finding tyres to fit the Dodge, 9.00x20 (10 ply) rated. He spoke to a chap who is big on Bedfords, and this guy warned us that British tyres might not fit American wheels despite the size being correct.
Has anyone heard of this before? the Dodge is fitted with split rim 20" wheels, and I'd be surprised if UK spec tyres won't fit.

My 600x16s fitted the Chevy rims without any issues.
There's a guy on ebay who supplied my mates Chevy and also supplies various other trucks with 20' wheels who may be able to confirm the british tyres fit on 20" split rims as he has imported and sold plenty. motosclasicas

| Rick, I have heard of this problem before with 900x16 tyres. Something to do with the rims being different in USA and UK. There was an article in the Military Vehicle Trust magazine some time ago about this subject. |

Yup it does appear to be the rims that are slightly different. Gordon, a Dodge owner that I regularly pester for information, came back with this today. Some of the tyres fitted to it are the original US ones.

US wheels have a 5 degree taper on the bead, which makes fitting British
tyres (with no taper) a bit of an issue. I've always managed to do it on
the smaller wheels (9.00 x 16 and 7.50 x 16) and I'm sure you could do it
on the bigger ones too, tyre fitter just needs to be aware British tyres
will be tight.
Many US wheels were abraded down to near enough level to take british
tyres - I'd be amazed if Bess still had US tyres on - get him to check
where the tyres were made that are on there now. if in doubt buy one and try it to minimize hassles, but should be OK
