Hi all we have just bought another caravan a 1968 Cheltenham Nyala (pics to follow) but it doesn't have a fridge . Our Fawn does and I want to put this into the Nyala . Re the piping do you have to be gas registered or can you do it yourself ?
I have read various forums and the consensus seems to be diy but check all unions with washing up liquid for leaks .

like all gas related things a CORGI registered gas installer is a must. however do you really need gas? how about a small electric fridge , that could be concealed in a cupboard , that's what i use , enough for margarine , milk etc. , but you do need an electric hook up connection . i would be reluctant to install gas pipes if they have never been fitted. cheers gordon Very Happy

As mentioned our Fawn has a gas fridge which is the correct era and as the Fawn is now going to be broken up it makes sense to use that .

Gil

Several members of my Safari Group have replaced gas pipes themselves, but my advice is to have your gas system checked by a caravan engineer regularly and especially after any work.

They have a bit of kit that pressurises the whole system way above the levels the gas bottle can produce and then you watch for any pressure drop.

If there is a drop then it is out with the Fairy Liquid to locate it. But you are looking for air escaping and not gas!

Last year I just dropped into a Caravan dealer and asked if I could book an appointment to have the test done, but the engineers were so interested in the Safari that they all downed tools and came for a look and did the test for a small "drink".

You should always use a corgi registered installer to work on gas appliances and should make sure that they have the correct qualifications to work on the type of appliance you have this is especially important with LPG as it is stored at much higher pressures and is heavier than air making it far more dangerous. Also NEVER check gas connections with washing up liquid always use proper leak detection fluid available from plumbing merchants
