I guess that age, experience and the price of gas (petrol) has meant that I could drive my vehicles with gas pedals made out of eggshells.
The V8 5L Ford Explorer will scamper away with just the slightest touch.
We have the 6 cylinder 3.4L Grand Prix, which again is very nimble around town and gives us good mileage on the Interstates, but then we don't keep flooring the pedal.
So...... maybe it does serve a purpose, not for me and easy to be sniggered at, but alas I fear that the bad drivers of today were taught by the bad drivers of yesterday. So many don't have the feel, understanding or temprement anymore. |

Maybe it's the wrong pedal to target. I think the best way to save fuel is to avoid using the brake pedal. It teaches you to anticipate.

Anyone that buys one must have more money than sense and can therefore afford all the fuel they want |

Hi
Had an email with that in it today, looked daft at the time, how would that make you more gentle on the pedal, as it says it will deflate under pressure if you need it to.
Cheers

Surely it's dangerous? What if you need a sudden burst of speed and this hampers your accelerating? Or worse, if it moves about under your feet and ends up impeding the brake pedal?
I'd be interested to see what any police or accident investigators thought of it! _________________ www.hepcatclassics.com - for classic car artworks |

Have you noticed how most people taught to drive in the last 10yrs over use the brake pedal? I was taught to anticipate and go down the gears approaching a junction or roundabout, NOW they wait until they get on top of it and just clutch brake stop!!

I thought the same, surely the period of "getting used to it being there for a start could be catastrophic _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

Yes, I think there are some very nasty little habits getting taught these days.
In my day (angry old farts club member) it was de rigour to take the car out of gear and apply the handbrake when you stopped but when I sit at traffic lights these days I am constantly blinded by the thoughtless g*t in front who also happens to have high efficiency brake lights + a horrible bar at eye level.
I mentioned this to another, less angry OFC member recently and he said "Oh but they probably have an automatic" to which I replied "Well they still have a handbrake."

Hi
I can assure you that they aren't being taught these things by my profession.
Once they have that permit to "Do what I like" however all they have been taught in 6 months goes out of the window to be replaced by either, what gives them and their mates an adrenalin rush or even, what they have been taught over the previous 17 years by their parents atrocious examples. |

good point on driving habits. i do my utmost to refrain from use of the brakes in order to keep energy use at optimum efficiency, but the majority of US drivers keep flatout on the throttle and do the exact same thing as they near a stop; jam on the brakes. then, as they accelerate, they do so again at full throttle to keep other drivers from cutting in front of them. it's as if every intersection was the starting grid at Lemans.
ah, well, as we burn away the last vestiges of petrol left to us, we'll learn how to drive properly.......
perhaps this is the one decent byproduct of the hybrid age; newer cars will have restictors built in to monitor vehicle speed REGARDLESS of driver input; thereby rendering null and void the "boy-racer" aspect of modern cars....... |

I see that company also have Brass Balls at $19:95. That must tell us something? _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |

Is the more plentiful supply of brass balls one of the more useful consequences of global warming?

No, they're needed to serve the sudden proliferation of pawnbrokers. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |
