As a club (Morris Marina Ecosse ) if we put up flags or banners at a car show, do we need public liability insurance , or is that covered by the organiser.? _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

YES YOU DO!
As a show organiser, I speak from personal experience.
Back in the 90's, a small car club at one of my shows failed to fix their gazebo to the ground and it blew over onto one of their own member's cars causing a couple of small dents and few scratches on the bonnet.
They did not have any insurance and so the car owner claimed against me, but my public liability insurers rejected their claim as the gazebo was not my property, was not erected by me, and "was not under my direct control".
The car owner's insurance company also felt the Club was to blame and in the end the members had a whip round for the cost of the paint, someone donated a spare bonnet, and they found a friendly repairer who sprayed it for free.
So it someone tripped over your bunting, or a pole fell on a car or someone's head it is almost certain that your club would be liable.
I have previously explained the insurance situation while at car shows but it was sometime ago so probably worth repeating.
All show organisers will ask you to confirm that your vehicle is covered by third party insurance because you are liable for any damage or injury caused by your vehicle while at the show, even when you are being guided by a show marshal, it is the driver who is in charge of the vehicle. So check before you let a friend drive your car while at a show, that either you or the other driver are covered.
My insurance covers any of my equipment (poles, signs, barriers etc) or me or my team causing damage or injury to entrants or the public. I always make sure the land owner has similar insurance cover just in case one of their trees falls on a car or person. _________________ Brian

Hi
You try finding someone to insure you to ride a Penny Farthing, the one company that will was wanting to charge hundreds and hundreds for the pleasure. They don't seem to understand that PF's are quite controlable when you get used to them, still risky, but not how they imagine!
Cheers

Who do you get public liability insurance from and how much does it cost,
Need a bit of help on this one guys. Does the cost depend on the number of members you have. I dont know but if someone could help it would be much appreciated. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |
