There's a new series on classic cars on Men & Motors. Turned over in time for last half hour tonight, featuring an Allegro, a 59 Cadillac and buying an E-type. Repeated through the week. Also on ITV prime time Mondays 8 pm. There is a website - do a search for "classic gear". |

Certainly not on ITV tonight at 8.00pm. Are you sure it's on ITV? |

According to their website, but then it said it would be on Men & Motors at 8.00 PM Sunday, and it must have started at 9.00 PM. |

Just noticed there was a thread started on this last week. Some saw the program Monday 22nd Dec. Doesn't say which channel, so I've asked on that thread.

I'm not sure if this was the same program but I just watched "Classic Gear" on M&M.
Oh dear! The cars were very nice but they really should not employ commentators who don't appear to know enough to have opinions and if, into the bargain, they also can't drive, then I think the editors should at least manipulate the footage to avoid the confirmation of certain hackneyed sexual stereotypes.

Going through some old tapes reminded me how few motoring programmes there are on terrestrial 'normal' TV. Anyone else remember the Uden series on C4 a few years ago, on Classic cars, plus the other one on Classic Trucks and so on? and the other series called Perpetual Motion, about types of transport that were still working long after they should/could have been retired? examples included the Minor, and the Avro Shackleton airborne early warning aircraft.
And where is the motorsport coverage on normal TV, bar F1?? no rallying, no BTCC, no rallycross etc etc
Top Gear may not be perfick, but there isn't much else to choose from lately (Fifth Gear doesn't do much for me, plus our C5 is grainy as hell).

It's a pity as there are a lot of good car programs on satellite TV.
I think they need to have a wide audience for terrestrial TV - that or they don't have the space for all the reality rubbish! |
