Was reading this quarters 'Sunbeam Owners Fellowship' magazine when I came across 2 names from the past:
The Vincent Black Shadow and Black Prince
So much nicer that a BMW 320 or a Ford Mondeo
What other great names are there for bikes and cars? |

I have always loved the reasons for the Citroen DS and ID cars even though on first look it just looks like letters.
DS in French is said "Day S" which in French is the same pronunciation as DEESSE which is French for "Goddess"
As it was so expensive Citroen brought out the cheaper version they went on to call the ID which is pronounced E Day which has the same pronunciation as "IDEE" or bonne idee meaning good idea
That is confirmed not just myth _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

I've always been very fond of these -
Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder
Dodge Custom Royal Lancer
Oldsmobile Golden Rocket Super 88 Holiday Hardtop Coupe
And bringing the subject right up to date, Fiat's soon to be released Abarth 500 can have a performance pack added which will give it the suffix of SS. Not very exciting in itself, however I'm reliably informed its pronounced "essy-essy".
Fiat 500 Abarth Essy-Essy - these Italians know style when they see it!

Hi Greeney,
While clearing out the attic to get the Christmas Decorations back up there I cam across this:
If you want it - should be an easy restore for you PM or email your address and I'll pop it in a jiffy bag.
Cheers

Greenie
And this was in my Christmas Cracker! It is 6cm long.
Needs a bit less work than the DS, or indeed your real Traction!
If you really want it, pm your address and it is yours. _________________ Brian

This car is called the Jowett Weasel, no, I kid you not. I'm told they rejected the name of 'Stoat' because the Weasel is weaselly recognized and the Stoat is stoatally different.
Sorry about the size of the photo, they had to be small to go down holes after rabbits. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |

I don't think Reginald Mitchell was very impressed when the powers that be decided to call his plane the Supermarine Spitfire. As a self effacing sort of chap I think he was much happier with its early name, Shrew.

If the Spitfire had been called the Shrew it would certainly have messed up William Waltons pompous piece of music. 'Shrew Prelude and Fugue?'
Apart from not having the same ring to it, it's almost impossible to say.
Would the pilots have gone into battle against the ME109 with the same confidence in a MkIII Shrew? It could well have changed the course of history.
