hope every one had a good new year
i havet been on 4 awhile bcause i bn trying to sort out my car
ford cortina mk2 all thro i dnt much abot old classic cars
and this is my first car,
the car going in2 the workshop next month to get its body work sorted out,
the guy almost broke his neck when he seen the car
and ask me where i got it, when i ask why
he said that a ford cortina 1600gt 4 door saloon in silver colour
was a very rare one to find and that there was only a handful
floating around, and known as the silver fox
well i just didnt know wat 2 say i was more surprise than he was
and he wanted to get his hands on it,
i was just wondering any members remember the silver fox cortina
and have a bit of history on it. or how many was made ,or words of wisdom
as im lost for words im also looking to get to some of your shows
if antone could let me know i would like that very much and meet the
members of your club ,

From what I can remember of my Ford days "Silver fox" was a colour offered for a limited period, while not very interesting at the time and the fact it was quite a new innovation for ford to use a metallic, not many people took them up on the offer, about 200 I think. Collectors look out for something a bit different to distinguish their cars so it has become a little more collectable and from what I have seen carries a slight premium in price if it is the original colour.
So well done, I would suggest getting in touch with a Ford Cortina register, they may be able to give you more details than I can based on my own meandering experience

Hi,
My sister had a Siver Fox Cortina and I remember the paint would peel off back to the primer as they drove along. Apparently Ford recognised this a problem colour.

I remember the Silver Fox, mainly for its paint problems. Damn good car otherwise.

Silver Fox and Blue Mink were 2 Ford colours that just wouldn't adhere to the primer. AIRC as soon as they were subjected to UV light the paint would flake off leaving a red primer.

Most cars would have been repainted in later colours by now so no problem I am sure, but this is a well known piece of classic motoring folklore.

Interestingly the problem only seemed to affect MKII Cortinas. The Escort would have been launched during the Silver Fox phase but they didn't seem to be so bad.
