Just having a rest from nother website (not motoring) I use. Although a superbly organized and informative site the forum tends to get a little unpleasant at times, at least I think it does. Some of the members correspond in a strange patois, a mixture of text speak and some strange vernacular. Had others not complained I would never have realized they were being offensive to each other.
What a pleasant change this forum is, the only really civilized one I have come across. Cool

I'd second that.

I too have never been on one that in general everyone seems to get on, I have seen in other forums where a slight niggle has turned into a forum wrecker
Rick has kept a weather eye indeed good show

Thanks chaps glad you like it, but really it is the quality of the contributors that makes or breaks a place like this. If people didn't actively participate I'd be minding a ghostforum Smile

I too have come across some forums(fora?)where things can get out of hand really quickly, and caused me to forgo the pleasure.
I'm no trick cyclist, but I believe people involved in restoration of any kind tend to be patient, and not throw their toys out of the pram at the slightest provocation.
In addition, because you don't know the people involved,a phrase written may sound curt or arrogant, when the person is merely trying to explain things in a plain manner, understandable by everyone.

I am a trick cyclist and I agree with you Laughing
Sometimes a lack of punctuation, or even a hastily written post can make it sound arrogant or aggressive, in fact real wars have been started for the lack of a comma Rolling Eyes A posts from newbies whom are unsure of the response they may get is no different to a shy hello in a crowded room or even those not very computer literate may shorten a post to the bare bones because it takes an age to type it with one finger...
I think having to be patient, creative and mild mannered with a car spreads into the real world too.
Well done anyway.. I don't want to go into technical trick cycling that would really put you off
Laughing

I go further, I think it is an excellent forum. In these days when politicians continue to look at ways of curtailing the use of our vehicles it is in everyone's interest to be courteous and helpful.
We need to remember all the time that language varies widely across the UK, so an expression that might be every day talk to someone else may seem offensive to you. Further I think that it is great that the forum is increasingly attracting classic owners from abroad - some whose first language is not English. Let's be patient and we will encourage more!!

Hello greeney i heartily agree that lack of academic skills can make one sound arrogant or aggressive . Speaking for myself i find it a challenge to speak the queens english let alone put it into script . However i try to be constructive and helpfull and not to give offence as i am sure many others do . Also humour varies greatly and can cause a problem. I rate this as the best forum long may it continue .Regards The Fly .
