It will soon be time for the Kittochside Rally once again and I have decided that as I have now won this event 3 times in a row and the P2 is no longer eligable to enter for a prize I am going to go along in the Range Rover and take the Lister-D stationary engine.
At the moment the Lister is sitting on a couple of pieces of timber which I am going to replace with a trolley, so I am now on the lookout for some parts.
I need an axle assembly, or at least the brackets similar to the picture below.
If not then I would take a couple of brackets similar to this
I also need two 10" (250mm in new money) cast iron wheels.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it _________________ ROVER

Hi
I can't help with either, but I know lots of people with engines of all sizes, many just weld some tube to the flat to make a similar bracket to your second illustration, and it works fine, this is how I am going to do my trolly's for my engines when I get chance.
I have wheels for my trolley's but no spares they have all gone on ebay, there is normally some smallish ones like you require on ebay, for not allot of money, just got to find somewhere local. The other option, is to cold bend/roll some black flat, and cut a disc or some round bar for spokes, with some thick tube or solid bored out to make your own. This is definitely the route to go down for big wheels.
Cheers

| My brother-in-law is working at a building site in Motherwell where and old bus station was.He dug up an old axel with wheels attached. He said it looked like it was off an old first world war truck/bus with thick spokes and solid rubber tyres. I told him to keep it for me but was to late it had been skipped!! Told him somebody somewhere would be looking for an old axel. |

Bearing stockists could supply something called a Pillow Block Bearing.
Not quite the same but they're self aligning and have been about for years.

I ordered a couple of pillow blocks today fom ebay with a 25mm bore so that should be ample to handle the 300lb engine. The cost of the bearings were less than £14 including postage so not a bad buy.
Thanks again for the name pigtin, funny how sometimes you know what you want, but you haven't a clue what it's called, I had never heard of a pillow block before. Incidently they are also known as a plumbers block!!!! Why a plumber would use them I haven't a clue _________________ ROVER

I now have my pillow blocks and axle rod.
I didn't want anything too big so decised to go for a pillow block with 25mm bore and a piece of 25mm round bright steel.
I had won some cast iron wheels from ebay that arrived today but when I opened the package the spokes were cracked. I called the vendor and he 'spat out his dummy' saying "that was the last time he would ever send anything north of the border as he always gets complaints from us lot up here"
Well to say I was not happy is an understatement and he will be getting his wheels back

I've finished the trolley and used the pillow blocks (thanks again pigtin) to mount the axle

A company I used to work for in Ashford had one of those running the paintshop compressor. I worked there for ten years until 1967 and it was in use every day. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special.
