I was having a tidy up in the garage today and came acoss an old Golden Virginia tin. Lo and behold inside were 2 sets of mag spanners that I had as an apprentice 45 years ago.
Tobacco tins were great for keeping bits in. Nearly every mechanic had them in their toolbox. I used to keep drills in them. I bet some of you still have them in your garage. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I have a few of my grandads tobacco tins but nowadays I find carte d'or ice cream tubs excellent for restoration storage.
When a bag is just not man enough or better still when stripping a double sided item or an item with multiple things attached they can be bagged and then kept together in a tub
They are also good for soaking tiny items or mixing paint as they are generally good plastic _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

Thanks for reminding me. When an uncle died about twenty years ago I was given a box with about a hundred Golden Virginia tins in it. I still have them somewhere and must go through them again. Every little left-over screw, nut and bolt, electrical connector is stored in them: even some ex-WD mercury switches. Couldn't bear to throw them away, they're almost a record of his life. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special.
