Maybe Rick may decide this is in the wrong section, hope he will excuse if so.
I would hope that the folks out there, some forum members perhaps, know
they are in the thoughts of people herein the UK at this desperate time.
Being an oldtimer, as my forum name suggests,I, like many of my generation feel far closer kinship with the old Commonwealth countries than I do for any others and hope that this tragedy has peaked now and that no more families are involved.

I have an aged aunt and 5 cousins live in that area so the problems are very much on my mind. |

I also have relatives in the area. I sure hope it is brought under control soon. _________________ ROVER

Central Florida is no stranger to wildfires, so we know the devastation they are facing "down under".

I echo all your sentiments. I find it appalling to hear that a significant proportion of the fires are set by arsonists. What sort of people can they be?

At least one person has already been arrested for arson regarding the Victorian Bushfires. He is being kept in custody. Probably to keep him alive. Folk here are very, very angry. The police have warned that there will be many more charges to follow. Who needs terrorists when we have scum like this?
Kevin Rudd, our Prime Minister, has promised that all these towns will be rebuilt. Unfortunately it will not bring the 181 (at this time) confirmed dead, back to life. Rudd is talking about charging the aronists with mass murder - which of course is what it is.
There are also very serious bushfires north of Victoria in New South Wales, but these have been rather overshadowed by the disaster in Victoria. I am safely 3000 km away from the bushfires, but this forum has members in Victoria and in New South Wales, who are pretty close to the fire front.
In addition to all of this, Northern Queensland is under massive floods due to very heavy cyclonic rain over the last couple of weeks.
