I know its not really old (76) but with the rot it had it felt like it was. The steps had rotted out both sides along with the outriggers and the front cross member had rotted out under some poorly applied repairs. The front spring mounts were badly weakened but the main chassis sections still fairly sound.
The engine is still the old V4 although its now got electronic ignition and modified heads,I fitted an overdrive box from an ambulance and discs from a later van with a larger servo. For cheap week ends away and for a good excuse to get covered in oil and MIG burns I'd recommend one of these or a similar old camper.Damp in the interiors is as much of a problem as rot underneath but at least if you get worn out working on the inside you can get your head down for a half hour. |

I always thought the Mk.1 Transit was a nice looking Vehicle, unfortunately you don't see many these days, not at Shows around this area that's for sure.
Great to see one being restored, look forward to seeing the progress.
All the Best,

Apart from the on going 'titivating' and maintenance this is pretty much finished now.I'm on the look out for another one, preferably with a V6 but parking and storing one might be a problem with a council obsessed by double yellow lines and bed sits.
The other day when the snow and ice had set in I had the last laugh on those who can't undersatnd why some people chose to to grovel about under old vehicles.Whilst some of them spent ages messing about with jum leads, damp start and boiling water trying to persuade their modern plastic things to fire up after an overnight stop, this fourty year old ford fired up first time after sitting there well over a month.
Progress?. |

Don't have a MK1 Tranit any more but I do have a good v6 if your interested.
It's an easy conversion ---- done loads in the past and very worth while for the extra Umph as the old V4 gets a little out of puff _________________ Home is where you park it |

Hi,thanks for the offer but I like the flat front so I'll stick with the V4 for now.I had a swb years ago that I put a V6 in,went like the clappers.
I like the old V4 engines but they aren't the smoothest in the world,or the most powerfull but even a kent is a squeeze if you keep the flat front and don't cut the bulkhead about. |

Too true
You need a diesel front for the V6 but they do go well _________________ Home is where you park it |
