I used to have a VW karmann ghia and a 1949 Anglia.

Just recently sold both of these so we could buy this.

Its not in too bad a condition, needs a bit of work though. We'll be trying to put it back closer to origional than it is now.

One of the first jobs though is to fix the heater, anyone know about MKII heaters?

try bleeding the heater, check the heater hoses and make shure they are both hot, if not undo the highest hose and wait untill water runs both the heater and the hose. good luck gerry snelling

Will do, thanks.

Im not sure its actually hooked up yet either. One of the controlls wont move fully and theres a little arm on the drivers side of the heater box that isnt connected to anything. It seems to be an internal flap maybe?

I dont know, and i dont have a manual for it yet so i guess i just have to dive in and see whats what Smile

That looks relly nice Graeme... a real classic and rather rare I expect. Out of interest, what aspects are unoriginal, looks pretty period to me?

Yep, aparantly only 8 zephyr estates known to the club.

As or non origional parts, most is easy to sort, removing extra switches, towbar, put origional bench front seat back, things like that.

Worst part is its had a glass sunroof fitted. Not sure what ill do about that yet, various options, just undecided.

It also has a mkIII zodiac engine and 4 speed floor change gearbox. Im happy to leave that as is though. I may re fit a 3 speed colum change but 4 speed makes the car more usable.

I think it may need new rings, or owrst case a rebore but ill rebuild the head and see what happens.

Got my eye on a triple SU set up too.

I like my cars to be period correct rather than stricktly stock. I dont mind mods, as long as there period mods.

Big job, however maybe a Webaso sun roof might return the period feel to the car. It'd be big enough to negate the hole left by the glass one, but I don't know if they're still available and how big a job it is for a do-it-yourselfer.

funny, I thought of the Webasto option too. AFAIK they can still be bought new and fitted professionally. I've heard of a few people being skilled enough to weld in sections of steel to an opening like this, but that level of skill isn't too easy to track down

Yep, webasto is my main thought.

Welding up the roof isnt a problem, i can fabricate the panel and weld it in easily enough, the cost of a new custom made headlining puts me off though.

I can deal with steal but im useless with cloth Laughing

Only things im not sure about is if i can get a small enough fabric sunroof, dont want to cut even more of the roof out. Although, i suppose it doesnt matter really.

Ive also considerd making a metal sunroof panel to replace the glass panel, would stand out less.

Covering the glass panel in vinyl has also been suggested but im not convinced it would look very good.

Ill probably paint the glass car colour for now untill i make up my mind.

Well, i got a few bits done today.

I got all the heater linkages working correctly, and both heater hoses get red hot.

Still no heat in the car though. Maybe the matrix is blocked?

I assume i can just remove the whole unit and try to back flush it?

Good job all the snowy weathers gone Smile
