I have recently been making a 'new' Poulard style awning for our 1958 Stirling. We managed to purchase a secondhand brown 12ft Poulard awning and I spent a weekend or so taking the top apart and reducing it in size to 10ft, my husband reducing the front poles to fit.

We were so pleased with the fit of this awning that I decided to try and make a new one. We were able to buy the blue acrylic canvas, mesh and zips from a company in Birmingham, who were very helpful.

I have spent the last few weekends making the top and sides, all were sewn (with care!) on a domestic sewing machine.

I hope you like the photos, we are looking forward to using it at our first show soon.

That's stunning!
The caravan is beautiful and the work on the awning is outstanding!

Thanks so much for your reply Amazon, it has come out better than we expected!
I hope you have as much fun out of your caravan as we have had out of ours. We attend a few classic car shows and steam rallies during the year with it.
By the way, if you saw the BBC4 program on classic caravans we were on it for about 2secs!! When Rob was talking they went up and down the rows of vans at Kemble show, and went past ours. Our few seconds of fame!!
Regards
Gill

Unfortunately we didn't see it, but must look out for it when repeated and hopefully we'll spot you!

You could probably start a small business making made to measure awnings for classic vans!!
Very Happy

That awning looks spot on, good work!

Do you have any pics of the inside of your caravan? mine looks to be from around the same period, probably a bit later... i'd like to see how others look on the inside. i know yours is a different layout as your door is in a different place

thanks

I have attached (hopefully!) a link to my album, I have taken a couple of photos of our kitchen area, needs a bit of clean after the winter! We have a two burner cooker with grill, the tap is a hand pump.
Ours is 10ft and is unusual layout with the two single berths at right angles to each other, makes it very roomy for a small van
We love this caravan and take it to quite a few shows.
We took over 100photos when we were restoring this caravan so if you would like me to send a cd of them then pm me with your address. http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h218/Clarina_2006/1958%20Stirling%20Caravan/

Hello! I really adore your gorgeous caravan and am most impressed with your wonderful awning!

I'm on the hunt for the same thing myself at the moment for my early 70's Baily Maru and will have to pick your brains. It's nigh on impossible to find anything small enough that is in keeping with the caravan.

Confused Very Happy
