In the states, most car shows give out dash plaques to the entrants.
Is this a common practice everywhere? Anyone else collect these things?

I know that Transtar Promotions, here in the U.K. use to. I have not been to any shows for a while, so I am not sure if they still do.

Hi
Ternvalley used to have it susses, giving you something usefull, a glass, or a mug etc, alot of the rallies give out brass plaques, but the heavier ones are best weighed in in my oppinion, especially going on the price of brass last year, probably not worth much now!
The thin sharp ones that Rick was mentioning are common place now.

Most up here are the thin tin ones. Today we got a nice engraved tumbler. Stirling & District C.C. have been giving them out for a while. At Moffat you always get a nice felt based coaster and the Pre67 Ford club always give you a nice mug.

In these Southern climes, they are issued from time to time, and bumper plaques for major events.
Here are four- small rectangle one is Queensland Motorkana 1976, the round one below that is from 1967. The oval one is 1970 and below that the New Zealand International rally of 1972
Below is a 'bumper' enamelled plaque for the 1976 National Tour
And below is another enamelled one for the Cairns Centenary rally.
Our latest acquisition is for the Dargo Centenary rally just over a week ago.

Interesting topic.
If I stopped giving out a commemorative plaque at any of my events, I would be lynched!
When I started I always gave out the printed thin brass look plaques, but when these reached about 60-70p each I switched to giving out a plastic credit card sized plaque, that seem to be as well received.
You would be astonished at the lengths some owners go to to get their plaque if they forget to collect it as they leave the event! I have had stamped addressed envelopes to return a plaque, some have travelled long distances to my home to collect their plaque. I even had one ask for a plaque for an event that took place three years before!!
So it seems the average owner really values a little plaque.

Quite a few events organisers wait until after 3.30 to give out attendance awards to stop people leaving early. I have seen cars leaving as early as 2pm which isnt fair on the public to see the cars ,

I don't do car shows anymore because I go to meet other enthusiasts and see their cars, not have some know it all joe public criticizing my restoration efforts. Even worse loads of little horrors with zipper jackets struggling to have a look in your car. The organisers do it to make money out of both owners and visitors. There is nothing wrong with that of course, just not my cup of tea. I would rather just get together at a more informal monthly, all make, pub meets and have a good old natter

I too like these little meets, it is simmilar with allot of clubs, I prefere doing the shows I do attend by myself as a rule, as you have to man the clubstand etc, which I don't particulary feel like doing alot. You should come to my little meet at the local pub, might be a bit far for you though! hehe

We always get the smart arses criticising the marinas ( wonder why ). On the plus side there is always someone telling you they know where there is one lying or someone else has some spares, which can be quite handy.
I also like raking the autojumbles but there are too many toy cars and books and bric a brac ( aka junk ) Take them away and there is hardly any autojumble. If it was just a one club meet at a pub I would soon get fed up looking at the same cars.
