I need new foam for the bed/seat cushions in my Stirling, where's the best place to get the foam? i may also want covers or i might just get a friend to make them for me.

Not sure what's recommended, but I'd be thinking a bit more than 4" for maximum comfort I guess it depends on how much of mother nature's padding you have int he first place

We used 4in high density foam for our Stirling, managed to get it locally. I purchased the upholstery fabric from e-bay.

Are your back cushions similar to the seat cushions?

On ours the back cushions are attached to the wall with a batten, they were called 'paddy backs' (info from the guys at Stirling Caravan Services) They were basically quilted and filled (I used polyester wadding) they were not needed to make the beds, as ours is basically two singles at right angles to each other. Thought you might be interested in the photo of the 'paddy backs'

You have been busy already restoring yours, the wooden doors etc look very similar to ours.

The limiting factor would appear to be the amount of room you need to slide into the dinette type of seating, with the table in place.
Plus, as the backs and squabs have to be the same thickness in order to make up into a bed, then too thick might make the area left for sitting on would be too narrow.

Ask about density, there used to be a foam place in Blackburn which did some cushions for me and they would have done mixed density if wanted, ie. perhaps a box formation in a softer foam with a harder foam core.

As in all these things talking to the bloke doing the job and explaining what you want can generate different ideas about how to do it.

The seats are fine with this foam, quite firm, which is what you need for seating. The foam is blue in colour, I have a feeling that it was different colours for different densities, but may be wrong!!

However found when used as beds, a bit firm for our taste, being of the more advanced years!!

Jim uses a piece of memory foam on top of his bed, and I have a 'self inflating mat' that I put on the top of my bed, just makes all the difference for us.
