I am going to import a 1938 Dodge half ton pickup. The body, chassis and interior are all original but the running gear has been rodded and under the sheet metal there really is nothing left from 1938.
The truck lots original but with 350 bhp, modern brakes steering, suspension, transmission and rear axle. It will go like a rocket.

My shipper tells me that i should get a BTI Ruling but the shipper does not
really understand what a rodded vehicle is like under the sheet metal.

Does any one in the UK have views on this. The different in the tax bill between a normal truck import and a BTI ruling is about £2500 for this import. I am doing this import regardless of the tax bill.
Does any know how many half ton trucks Dodge produced in 1938. Razz Razz

I'd have thought you could get a BTI ruling on it simply due to it's age surely? AFAIK anything pre-1950 qualifies, and so long as the chassis & body are still original I wouldn't have thought there'd be a problem.

I'm not sure how many 38s were built, perhaps the Chrysler historic division could help? I contacted them about my truck, and they sent me some photocopies of old brochures etc.

Do you have any photos of it?? be great to see it Smile

BTI unfortunately is not just about being built before 1950. Its also about being a historic vehicle and i am not sure how modern running gear affects this.
I personally think that providing full details of the running gear will open up a can of worms.
I used a bill of sale instead of using the ebay site for proof of purchase and just provided brief details on the BTI form.
The only pictures i have come foom the ebay site which i rather not post until i know how things pan out. Wink Wink

Hee hee, i got BTI om my truck. Was i lucky or were customs not looking beyond the paper work.
I did a bit of checking up on this BTI business and you should only get it if your pre 1950 vehicle is substantially unmodified. Laughing Laughing Laughing
