|
|
Are you the proud owner of a retro or vintage caravan or do you know someone who is? Do you spend your weekends, like us, escaping to the countryside in your Willerby or lovingly restoring your Spartanette or customising your Westerner? If so, this is your chance to share your passion for caravanning with the rest of the world.
After years spent enjoying the sanctuaries their caravans offered, I am working with two caravan owners and enthusiasts to compile a book featuring retro, classic and customised caravans, dating through the end of the 1970s, from around the world.
In this time where expensive holidays are not always possible and concern about our carbon footprints makes long-haul flights less attractive, caravanning offers a wonderful holiday option people might not have previously considered. The interest in caravanning is rapidly growing. With an eye for detail and lovely styling, our hardback, landscape format book will be a visual treat, one which opens up caravanning to a whole new generation of stylish couples and families. We have always known caravanning was cool but this is your chance to show people just how fantastic your caravan and the caravan community is.
As you can imagine, this book is a labour of love but we are convinced that other people would like to share their passion for all things caravan too, be it retro interiors, archive images or pieces of original advertising. With a limited budget we are hoping that you might be able to help us make this book something special.
The book will be primarily photographic so we initially need you to send us pictures including:
- The exterior of your caravan – front, back and sides
- The interior of your caravan – including any design features, period details, fixtures and fittings
- Details about your caravan (make, model, year)
- Any brief personal comments you might like to share (i.e. reason for purchasing, where you take your caravan, your feelings about owning a caravan etc)
People have become increasingly inventive about the use of their caravans. If you use yours as a spare room, office, guesthouse, sporting holidays like surfing, or merely to escape your everyday life, and are happy for it to be featured in a coffee table book, we would love to see it.
We are also keen to track down old photographs, filmed footage, advertising material or caravan memorabilia dated through the 70s.
If your caravan or materials are selected, we will, of course, provide you with a copy of the book and any stills that might be taken by our photographers.
If you are interested please email Maggi Townley on mycoolcaravan@yahoo.com or call Jane Field on 0797 351 0715.
We look forward to hearing from you and spreading the caravan word far and wide. |

Apologies Rick. I actually just wanted to change the title (and only re-posted once) which I now realise I could have done by editing rather than re-posting. That said, if I wanted to bump up a previous thread, how would I go about doing that.
All the best,
Maggi |

Cobbler, hello -
I emailed you on the 18th, day after I received your mail but will try resending. Just in case I'll also paste my reply below. I can't begin to than k you enough for the Australian links as I have had a fantastic response.
Thank you again for your lovely mail and support of this project.
All the very best,
Maggi
Original email:
Dear (I've deleted your real name),
Thank you very much for your email. We are indeed very interested in including Australia and your auspicious but under-referenced caravaning heritage in the book.
I have had a look at and posted to the forum you suggested and you are certainly right in and that there are a number of fabulous caravans including your own.
The book is a real labour of love and due to a very limited budget we are not in a position to send photographers to shoot the interiors and exteriors of caravans outside the UK. We are, however, keen to include international caravan when quality hi res images are available and have already been emailed and sent CDs of shots we plan to feature in the book.
Might you be able to tell me the resolation of the pictures of your caravans, email copies to me so I can check them and / or send a CD of images to me in the UK? Or perhaps upload them to a site like flickr or photobox where I can view them at full resolution.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Maggi Townley |
