Anyone got any experiences of ignorance on the roads that really makes your blood boil? Every day I get cars, usually luxury 4x4's with personalised numberplates, that come and sit on my rear bumper instead of overtaking. Quite often they even sit on my bumper when I'm driving at 30 in built up areas!

And only this morning, I had a horsebox pull out in front of me on a country lane, forcing me to slam on the anchors. I was doing about 40mph and the driver showed no regard for their safety, my safety, or even their horse's. I don't know whether its particularly bad when you drive an old car, but it really gets me angry!!! Evil or Very Mad

Lets have your experiences of modern car owners' driving here!

Yesterday I nearly had a milk tanker take the front off the A55, I was waiting to turn right and the &$&&^* behind the wheel of the lorry cut across my bows. If I hadn't snatched reverse and nipped rearwards, he'd have caught the Cambridge's front end Evil or Very Mad

I think the folk that sit on your back bumper have a different philosophy to driving. They are often drivers who lack the confidence to over take and think they can persuade you to drive faster instead. Surprisingly this is not limited to A class roads, it happens on motorways and dual carriageways as well. I can understand the frustration of commercial vehicle drivers but driving at 56 mph normally resolves that problem.

For car drivers that appear unable to overtake I usually just take my foot off the accelerator and let my car slow down gradually and they get really fed up and find they have enough confidence after all.

I usually find the opposite when I am in either the Minor or 1800 - drivers, especially those in 4x4's are hell bent on passing the old car regardless of the speed I am doing. It seems to be an affront to their dignity that they are behind an old car. Even when doing 60 mph on the open road (non dual carriageway) where that is the speed limit, they still come past regardless of their own or more importantly my safety. Vehicles regularly pull out from junctions in front of me, completely oblivious to the fact that if I am approaching at 60mph my stopping distance is considerably greater than theirs. Evil or Very Mad

Oh yes I get the overtaking drivers all the time as well, but they don't bother me too much. it's the ones that sit on my bumper that really annoy me Evil or Very Mad
However, I've had a couple of cars overtake me on single carriageway roads when there's been oncoming traffic Shocked and I've had to brake sharply to let them back in before they have a head-on smash!!!

If it's any consolation, we have our d*ckheads on the road over here as well! Like you 640TMP, I especially love the ones that sit on your rear bumper in the strange belief that you will immediately exceed the speed limit and risk a fine just for them! We call it tailgating over here. I generally remove my foot from the throttle and just coast until my falling speed makes them overtake!

Hi

Yeah had these idiots in both my modern and oldies, I mean I may be a slow driver in comparison to others, I just see no reason to rush! I believe the higway code says something simmilar to " if there is a car very close to your rear end, you are to slow down and increase the distance to the car infront of you, to make allowance for there lack of stopping distance. I take this and just slow down, right down if they are on my tail! The usually get the message, drop back, then you speed up again, and when they return to your rear end, you slow down again, do this a couple of times they either overtake or drop back most of the time!

You want to try riding the PF, the amount of abuce you get is quite unbeliveable, but that bike was on the road before any car, and I mean any car, so they can get lost! Also the people that seem interested are the most danngerous, looking at you, then when they eventually look at the road, they see they are about to crash, and swerve infront of you, or stop infront of you get out and take a pic, where they think I am meant to go god knows!

Driving a tractor is another one, most people see a tractor coming, I am not argueing with that, and wait, some people usually footballer wife types in range rover sports, I have a big car so I am coming through everyone will wait for me, but when you have 200hp of tractor a range rover is rather insignificate! Same with people overtaking traction engines, directly into oncoming traffic...

I won't go on, but this subject really pi%%es me off! Mad

Cheers

Dave

OK so it's going to rain all weekend Evil or Very Mad So let's have a good old moan!! Now I have been out this morning, it's raining and overcast with lot's of spray. So why do so many drivers drive without lights. I think drivers of silver/grey cars especially don't understand....you are "invisible" in those conditions. All the Chav's can be seen because they have their "driving lights" Laughing on all of the time.
What else or who else can I moan about. Oh! of course we have the cyclists. I know why many don't wear head protection...Because they are Boneheads.
Let's set the picture. I am driving a 40 ton truck along a dual carriageway that has many sets of traffic lights. I am keeping to the left lane and have to stop at every set of lights. So what happens? Bonehead cyclist squeezes down my nearside and on rare occasions actually STOPS at the lights. However, the lights change, I catch up with him and because I want to give him a wide berth, I need to move over (AGAIN) thats if the Chav's or Wags will let me out. And while I am on about cyclists....I DO OWN THE ROAD. If it was not for me being robbed of thousands of pounds, you lot would be riding on farm tracks Laughing Laughing I will continue tomorrow (if it is raining) or if the sun is shining, I'll be working on my truck.

It is still raining Mad so what else can I moan about?
We are fed up and annoyed about politicians and wonder how we can ever trust them again. So I think I will stand for the next election on the following points.

1. I will scrap VED. You will be taxed on fuel only, so it is up to you. The more you drive, the more you pay. If you choose to drive a large engine car but for only a few thousand miles or want to own several classics. That is your choice.

2. I will scrap the winter fuel allowance and replace it with free travel and accommodation in a warmer climate.

3. I will reintroduce the birch for anyone caught "Keying" a car. After basic treatment for your injuries, you will be sent to one of the many islands off the British coastline that will be home for all of societies scum. Basic shelter will be provided and food dropped weekly. Once there, you will be free to vandalize, terrorize, rob and do anything you like.

4. Supermarkets. All parking bay dimensions will be the same as those currently provided for Mothers & Children and Disabled Drivers. This should prevent "door dinging", however any motorist guilty of this, will be sent to the institution previously mentioned. If any supermarket fails to comply and your car is damaged. You will be awarded a sum equal to that supermarkets profits for the hour.

Let me see if it's still raining Laughing

Hi

I am slightly offended, you called me a bonehead!
Mad

Although on the other hand I do normally have head protection of the period, when on the penny, my cap, this prevents grazes etc. I disagree with wearing a polystyrene helmet when riding my modern safety bicycle but that is because they are just that a safety bicycle! Wink hehe

you also say you own the road, fair enough, but then again, you would have no road to own if it wasn't for cyclists, as cycles led to motorcars being built, so really you should be very greatful for all cyclists have done for you, without them you would be walking down muddy little paths, with the odd horse trotting by. Of course I am only talking about cyclists of the victorian era, more modern varities that I think you may be speaking of, the type that are here to save the world and disregard the laws of the road like traffic lights etc, are a totall different kettle of fish! hehe

It is raining here too, though I expect you can probably tell that from the above, and add to that I have just been doing my tax return, to pay for the mp's donations when they go to church!

Right off to cry in the corner....

Cheers

Dave
