........an Austin A35? Well as I have discovered this afternoon, quite a lot. Who says old cars are impractical?

And there's still more to go in!

Taking out the passenger seat only takes a few seconds on an A35 Smile

Riding low

some nice old kid's annuals there Smile

reminds me of years ago, we were in my Mk1 A40 and went for a day to Llandudno, handily at the time of a local household auction. We wandered in and bid on a Big pile of old motoring mags. They all went into the back of the A40, just, and were piled t othe roof - it sat very low on the springs all the way but got us home Smile

Modern cars take up far more road space but internally there is often less useable room including lega nd elbow room

It's amazing how much space these cars actually have.My 1st car was an A30,and it carried all my tools around in the boot,as did my second car,an a35
I think the problem with modern small cars is all the gadgetry required to make it sell.Air bags, air cond.,electric this, that and the other. It all takes up space, and adds weight.
And there's no point carting tools in the boot, because there's virtually nothing you can fix yourself Sad .
Even on fairly large cars, boot space is often far less than it should be because of the rounded shape of the rear end so in vogue today.
Another reason to like old cars.Whoo-hoo!

Hi Keith,

Er, no Laughing I was doing a boot sale to raise cash for my A35 restoration. I drove down to Sadlers Farm near Benfleet, navigated the notorious Sadlers Farm roundabout in terrible heat and crawled in loads of traffic, fully loaded Smile

And this was in the car park Very Happy

It was very smart, but some of the rubber seals were perished and there were seat covers on, so the upolstery probably wasn't up to much. It had also lost its original number.

Are you brave enough? Wink

Going home! It didn't miss a beat (apart from running out of puff on one of the steepest hills in Essex). I think it should be ready for the oldclassiccar meet tomorrow Wink

How much can you fit in? Try to find a copy of the book 'Classic British Trials Bikes' by Don Morley. In the opening section is a picture of an Austin A50 with a DOT trials bike in the back. True the back seat is out and the front forks and tank removed form the DOT, still looks tight to me!

Hey Rich,

I loved that little Ford Angle Iron you photographed. Last year I came very close to buying a 1961 4 door Prefect. It was the same shape, but one of the last with the OHV Anglia motor and 4 speed box in it. I don't know why I didn't get it and I'm still sorry I let it go.

I've just looked in my copy. What has he done with the forks and front wheel? How did he get it in anyway in a saloon?
