Just finished reading this book by Miranda Seymour about Helene Delangle, more widely known as Helle Nice, who went from a lower class background to racing Bugatti's and her Alfa Romeo Monza amongst other cars pre-WW2. Miranda Seymour pieces together her life story using remaining evidence, although has to fabricate some parts where large chunks of life are missing. A very interesting read, especially as an insight into the world of female racing drivers.
The only let downs about the book is that at parts it's hard to tell which parts are fabricated and which based on evidence, and putting theories forward with little to support it, such as suggesting she may have been molested as a child because of what her sex life in adulthood seems to have been like was a detraction for me. However, still worth buying if you're interested in vintage racing |
