This book focuses on the attempts on the Land Speed Record by the three famous British LSR holders of the 1920's and 30's - Segrave, Campbell and Cobb. It goes in to great detail about the attempts, the cars, and the personal lives of the three and how they were intertwined. However, the book doesn't just write about these three - Parry Thomas and George Eyston also get a sizeable mentioned, and with Brooklands as the background for all five it also features heavily.
I can highly reccomend it to anyone interested in anything with an engine, and/or the mid-war art deco era. With the mention of Brooklands and the background of Britain in 1907-1947 there are many references and interesting anecdotes about races, cars and people of the period, making a very evocative and readable book |
