In the mid eighties I bought a Cortina Crusader with a broken timing belt for £35. I ran it for nearly 2 years and only serviced it. I then sold it on for £375................that was a bargain and a good profit.....another new topic coming on Cool

Mini Clubman Estate with 19k on the clock that belonged to my mates mother. It was about 5 years old and the only problem was it stuck in reverse gear every now and then.
I paid £425.00 for it and my wife used it to commute to and from work. It developed a fault that when you dipped the clutch the engine would stall, further investigation revealed the crankshaft had too much end float so I pulled the engine out and looked in at the gearbox as I was lifting the engine. There sitting on top of the gears was the centre main bearing cap, at the bottom of the box was the chewed thrust bearings and one bolt. The other bolt was stuck at the reverse gear and every so often would kick over and jam the gear. I had to obtain a centre cap from a scrap engine and 'make it fit'.
Another time my wife hit a pothole and shoved the engine back 6 inches, so the 14lb hammer applied to the floor soon put it back in position, I then decided to trade it in for a Renault 25 and duly received a whopping £1500 for it.....

Does a 'free' car count? if so the pink A35 that was donated to the cause many years ago was a bargain, if only for all the parts it donated (at the time erindoors was running an A30). Apparently the previous owner had finished decorating their bathroom (in pink, nice), and had some left over, so decided to treat the Austin to a fresh paintjob..

A nice motoring-related bargain (but not a vehicle) was a book on Indy racing bought for 50p, that happened to have an autographed info sheet inside it about, and signed by, Mario Andretti.

I've been buying modern cars for re sale lately but wont count any of them as they were intended to be sold for a small profit but surely the most bargainous car was my surf blue mini which at the time was beige and I got it for free including some body parts for the aqctual restoration!!

To date it ows me roughly about Lm600 (about a 1000 sterlings)

The hunter was also a free car but it is costing me much more than that but think it will be finished with an expenditure of not more than a Lm1000, around 1700 sterlings.

Around 1972 I bought a Herald Convertible for £25. The bonnet had been caught by the wind and wouldn't close properly. The owner was embarrassed by even asking that much.
Five minutes careful work with a tyre lever and the bonnet was ok again. It was taxed and MOT'd so I used it for about six months then sold it for £90.
Sadly... six months later I saw it in a breakers yard.
