No, not swearing about the DVLA!
An acquaintance of mine recently bought a classic vehicle that dates from 1946. In the tax disc holder was an F licence that expired at the end of 1946. I am guessing that this was a Farmer's concession in the fuel restricted days after WWII but can anyone confirm this?

I never met that, but goods vehicles at that time carried a D (I think, but maybe a C) licence which allowed them to use RED or POOL petrol (very few diesel road vehicles then). Pool petrol and was cheaper and available at most garages. Probably farmers had a similar concession. There were penalties for wrongful use similar to red diesel.

Thanks for that. I know about "C" licences, but had never come across this before.
If I get a chance I will see if I can get a scan of it and post it here!
