I find it fascinating learning the history of old cars and I just thought we should have a thread listing the original dealers of cars on the forum, and to see if anyone remembers those dealers.

My A35's came from Frost Brothers, North St, Hornchurch and The Car Mart, London respectively. The Cambridge came from the SMAC group here in Sarf End.

My dad's Morris Minor was registered in 1960, and has a sticker from the original dealer on the dashboard. It reads 'Supplied By, T.R. Page & Co. Ltd, Morris House, Bexhill'.

My Morris 8 was registered 1936

Browne's are still trading. Once the Morris is back on the road I will have to take it to Loddon.

My old Jag was supplied by Henly's in Manchester in January 1939 but sadly I don't think Henly's still have a place in Manchester and needless to say the company doesn't keep records earlier than the 1970s. Sad

My Mk1 A40 was supplied to my great uncle in 1960 by Pike's garage in Exeter, I've got some of the old paperwork for it tucked away.

As for the others I'm not sure.

My E-type was supplied by Henley's London in October '61. My dad had a Ford main dealership in Fareham back in the 1950s that went by the name of Croker & Farrell.

My 1968 P6 Rover that I got in 1996 still had the dealer sticker on the dashboard and as it was close to where my mother lived at the time, I took the car back there.

I was disappointed to find that it was now a Hyundai dealer but there was one mechanic who had started there in 1966 and so remembered them supplying Rovers.

The Sales Manager was interested in classics and offered me a dealer sticker to put in the back window but I politely declined!

I have the original service book for the Amazon, supplied by Speeds of Alfreton in Derbyshire to a Mr Lammin of Newton, Derbyshire. I will have to make a pilgrimage there one day, perhaps next August when the car will be 40 years old.

My 1972 Rover 3.5 Litre saloon has"Trumans of Nottingham" on an alloy plate stuck to the door step trim.

The place still exists as Mann Eggerton and supplies top marques like Rolls Royce/Jaguar on Derby Road

It was the main Rover distributor for Nottingham even before the war although in a different location

I have the original bill of sale for my 1956 Ford Popular 103 from Whites Ford Dealers, St. Marys Street of Bridgwater, Somerset. Unfortunately the Place is now a Weatherspoons Pub.

They had an advert on the radio today about how they are still in business but as a honda dealership now which if you think of all the almalgamations made by the british car industry is quite apt for your morris .

If anyone else's car came from Exeter originally, this page of old garage photos might be interesting .... thanks to Ross for tipping me off about it

My father, after the war, was a Ford main dealer in Fareham, Hants, the garage called Croker and Farrell. I've never been able to find out any of the history but all I can say is that my father sold it as building land (centre of town and petrol pumps that were on the pavement) in 1959.
