I have a large pile of old buff log books that have been in storage for many years. I pulled them out tonight and went through the DVLA site to see if any of the cars were registered with them and out of 25 only one came up..a 1936 Phantom III.
I'm sure the owner would like the log book..but how do you find them..I will start with the owners club but any other suggestions? _________________ Rust Junky & oil addict. |

You should be watching The Joy`s Of Motoring at 7.00pm, not sorting out you drawer, my excuse is i have set the video (now that`s old fashioned) to watch later.
I was sorting out old car related photo`s the other night. |

This is quite amazing..a bit of searching and it appears that the car was in a chase scene in a 1941 film called " Major Barbara"
A little more research and it has been resotored in recent years..2003. _________________ Rust Junky & oil addict. |

Contact the various clubs. Pretty sure they keep a database of reg numbers and chassis etc.
www.rrec.co.uk
I think Rolls Royce cars keep a database as well _________________ Alistair

RESULT. The restoration company passed on my details and i have a message from the people who own the car. I will phone tomorrow as i'm sure they don't want me calling now...had a few local ale's..a few too many for a civil conversation
A picture of the car outside of the house it resided in it's early days..

I spoke to the owner today and he was delighted to hear from me about the paperwork.
I spoke at length about the car and it's history.
The car was first owned by Sir Herbert Smith from Kidderminster, he was a major carpet manufacturer. The car was sold on in 1945 to H.R.Owen..a Rolls Royce dealer that still exists in London. There is period that is unclear but the car ended up in Switzerland until 2002 when the present owner found her in a pretty run down state..the car was transported back to the UK and by luck the original registration was avaliable.
How the document ended up in Worthing is still unclear but the founder of the garage where i found it started his buisiness in London about the same time that H.R.Owen bought the car.
I have posted the reg document on and have been promised a ride in the car if we ever meet.
As a side note the owner also has a 1903 Panhard that he will be using on the London to Brighton run next year. _________________ Rust Junky & oil addict. |
