|
|
I was thinking about the fact that lead in petrol is said to be bad for the brain. When I was growing up, roads were trafficked by cars that used leaded petrol. Lets check and see what happened during the leaded days:
Man invented:
The aeroplane and the jet
The TV (first black and white, then colour)
Cars went from 10 mph to 200 mph
The first computers were born within the government
Invented the toaster and microwave
Shot the first people into space including a moon landing
Sent a deep space probe beyond our galaxy that kept working many years past its life expectancy
Thought up many TV shows and comic books that in some cases predicted the future (for instance early superman predicted the ability to fly at supersonic speeds that everyone said was impossible)
Broke the sound barrier - several times
Now for the people born after lead was removed from petrol.
Man invented:
Digital media (actually just expands on what was already being done)
TV has shows that show "reality" because there is no more imagination
Bigger jets... oh wait, that just expands what the others already did
Better TV colour.. oh, again, just improving what is already there
No space landings
Several botched planetary probes
A space station that still isn't complete but some say needs replacing
Car mileage... oh wait. Cars the size of my Chrysler still only get the same mileage. Not fair comparing a Smart to a 1965 7 litre plus car!
I'm still at a loss to work out how we jelly brained old people survived!

| Lead bad for the brain? I spent my formative years 1938 to 1957 living in Streatham High Road; nowdays I sometimes feel thick as two short planks... Should I blame the lead, or is it senile decay? Perhaps if I had grown up somewhere healthy I could have been prime minister. |

Well it is for the people who charge a fortune selling it to motorists who believe they need it! _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you

Does this mean I have to stop playing with my lead soldiers and Hornby Dublo foot passengers and platforms staff? I well remember all the lead piping I grew up with yet I refused a job as a rocket scientist later. Well, it was with Jetex though |

I guess it was wasn't like the luminous watch dial painters who licked their brushes to get a good point. Most assemblers didn't lick their soldering irons to clean the tips.
