Why do manufacturers insist on building thier vans with so little style? OK the interiors are bursting with all the kit you may find in your average house, but the actual style has all but disappeared, has it not?

Well I've gone from older vans due to finance through to newer slope fronters, now back to classic vans for pure style and looks. Steve

I would go back to a classic van in a heartbeat if I had a place to store it indoors but sadly my caravan has to be in an open storage compound.

My vans are stored outside, the most that happens is the wifes has its posh cover on it, but other wise they are open to the elements

Robin, they were designed to be used/left outside! I've never garaged a car or caravan, ever, and my caravan is 31 years old.

That is a real shame O V M,
£750 reserve not met...... if anybody is prepared to restore it ernestclump's friend
should GIVE it to them rather than let it just rot away to nothing.
But I don't suppose that will happen aye ?

yes it seams that these peaple would rather let there caravans rot into the ground, then let it go for less then they value it at .
i know of a club member thats been collecting vintage vans for years, just to watch them rot in a field behind his house ,and the funny thing is he thinks he's "saving" these vans |

Regarding the style (lack of) in new caravans.
The same sentiments are expressed here in Oz by people
who prefer to buy pre 1970 caravans...... and they are a
growing band of people.
When we have our 'vans on display we often hear folk
say “what more do you need, a bed to sleep in... a cooker
.... a fridge, (ice box?).. and a roof over your head where
ever you stop”.
Problem is...... there aren't enough vintage / classic caravans
left to satisfy the demand.. so some poor sods have to settle
for 'vans with all of the above plus.... microwave...reverse
cycle airconditioning.. flat screen hdtv (automatic antenna)..
cd/dvd player with 5.1 Dolby surround sound...toilet & shower
recess...dressing tables..pull-out pantry..water level monitor..
and so it goes on...and on...and on .
When we go into a caravan park they come to look at our
'van..... we don't bother to look at theirs.. it will be the same
as all the others

It makes me think of when we stayed at a woodland Caravan Club Site in Cumbria on our way back from Scotland a few years ago. We were in our 1958 Freeman Leveret and, being a beautiful Friday evening in July, we sat outside the van watching the world go by. Except suddenly there were no people to watch apart from the occasional person twiddling their statellite dish to get a better signal. We then realised it was 7.30 p.m. and everyone was inside watching Coronation Street, at least in all of the vans we could see!

I agree that caravans are made to be outdoors and I have never stored one indoors but I thought maybe a real classic van should be coddled a little.
