I am in need of 4 or 5, 600x17 commercial vehicle tyres. After a search on the internet it seems they are going to cost me close on £200 each with fitting and tubes. Now am I missing something or does anybody know where I may find them cheaper ? or am I over a barrel And If I am for god sake dont tell the mrs that the tyres on my ute were bloody near a grand "MO" _________________ A vehicle can be restored at any time, But is original only once ! |

Hi
Unfortunately you are probably not off the mark at £200 each, Longstone Tyres are where I get my 450 x 17 from, and they seem to offer the best prices. I suspect it the low volume that drives up the cost
That said tyre prices in general seem to have gone up recently (oil price related?) a couple of weeks ago I had to fork out £325 for a single tyre on my modern!! dam "run flat" thing that had a nail in, and you can't repair run flats!

Try this chap here:
http://www.tyre-finder.co.uk/
very helpful, has 5.50x17 listed on his site.
If they're a lot cheaper I'm sure they'd do. |

Seek and ye shall find ! I suppose everybody deserves a bit of luck now and again. Today was mine. I have been searching for some 600 x 17 cross -ply tyres for a while. As usual I found a couple on the dreaded Ebay. I asked the seller if he had any more in that size ? He told me he did have a few more, 4 in fact. They were Dunlops whereas the ones I had bought initially were Firestones. He said 2 are Brand new (old stock) with labels but a bit bigger than what I wanted at 650 x17 and the other 2 were good condition retreads with the same tread pattern and the size I wanted at 600 x 17.
I told him I would have them unseen. When they were delivered I was delighted to see that they were actually Dunlop Fort tyres. These were the tyres fitted on my Ute when It was sold new. So I had a very good luck result.... And how much ? £10 each !!! if you Google Dunlop Fort Tyre you will find out just why I am so happy LOL. Suppose thats my good fortune used for this month

Very true. In my experience, a lot of stuff tends to go for top money on Ebay. Rooting through boxes at Beaulieu autojumble on the other hand has produced some real bargains for me, (too many to list over the years).
Well done to you |

Stuff only sells on Ebay for what someone is prepared to pay for it. The moral is do not get into a bidding war. Bid at what you are prepared to pay and no more. I have applied this several times and lost an item only to suddenly get a second chance offer. OK maybe occasionally the vendor had 2, but I also suspect that they had a mate running up the bid. Sadly more people can gather round Ebay's box than can get around Beaulieu auto jumble's one so ther is a risk that you will pay more, but if everyone stuck to declining the bidding war then things would not sell at silly money.
If an item is over priced and no one bids it sends the seller a message too.
