We are in a recession but have you noticed the prices of cars and caravans on the climb Question

With the avid hobby of some folk stashing their money away in savings accounts, not being such a good return at the moment are they buying up other assets. Question

We also have a young age group coming through the ranks buying cult items from the 1960`s and 1970`s.

My aunt had a Volkswagon camper for sale a few years back priced at £1300.00.
Try getting one of these now!!!

Small cult caravans (teardrops) you can hardly stand up in are are starting at £2000.00 upwards. Sad

Read the small ads and there are a proliferation of adverts reading.

Retired gent requires a project,to keep out of the wifes way, (dealer)

Cash paid for your MOT failure, only pre 1972 vehicles apply, (dealer)

Garages and Sheds cleared of your deceased husbands lifetime collection of rare Jaguar,Alvis,Bentley spares, and we won`t even charge you, we will even take away the shed, perhaps we might find a car under the rubbish. (dealer)

We want anything you own made before 1972, tax exempt, even the missus. Exclamation
(dealer)

Old man on pension wants free tools, but must have Jaguar,Bentley or Rolls Royce stamped on them.(dealer)

My poor old grandad wants me to restore an old car in our backyard outhouse, the type he owned in the sixties when he was a poorly paid dustman,-XK150 Drophead 3.8ltr S,cheap please as we ain`t got no money.(dealer)

Unfinished projects brought for CASH,as long as all the expensive and hard to find bits, we can sell on Ebay are still with the car. (dealer)

Old cars we DETEST purchased for CASH,as long as the number plate is a good one and is still on retention,we can then re-register the car with an age related plate and sell to a proper enthusiast who will restore and cherish it for ever more.(dealer) Sad

You even get the non enthusiast trying to sell the family car saying,- It will be worth a fortune when its on the road,(£20,000 spent and three years to restore) i`ve seen one on Ebay make over £4.000.(amature up and coming dealer) Sad

Old granny phones about a vehicle, you visit thinking a bargain is in the making, spend all morning under and in the vehicle, even get it extracted out the barn and get it running for her,(sweet old thing) she then announces that her old man told her on his death bed about scroungers trying to get stuff for nothing, and tells you to ------ off.(born and bred dealer) Very Happy

Hope we don`t return to the late 1980`s when a Moggie was fetching £10,000,Jaguar MK 11`s £30,000 it would be a shame if the wrong sort of people get into our hobby again Exclamation Exclamation

An article in CCW a couple of weeks back was looking at car prices, it seems the weak £ in relation to the Euro has seen a steady flow of really good cars going to the Continent. That may also lead to prices on good stuff creeping upwards, not bad if you're a seller, not so good if a buyer Confused

I read somewhere someone was promoting that company bosses should be looking to get classic cars to drive around in as they are tax exempt motoring and increasing in value. Mostly top end clasics of course but it will have the effect of inflating values and then someday there will be a crash, as always, when they have milked it and ruined it for the true hard up enthusiat collector. Typical.
It just makes your blood boil to think greedy bankers are probably spending their bonuses in this way.
