If a car fails and is re-tested after 10 days, are only the failure items tested or is it a full re-test? I know a full fee is payable but never had this happen before.

Thanks

I'm 99% sure that only the items that failed the original test are tested at 2nd examination. Most garages do not charge for re-test.

Reading from the VOSA Mot refusal certificate, it states:

"If this vehicle is left at the testing station for repair and is retested before the end of 10 working days, then only a partial retest is needed for which no fee may be charged."

"If this vehicle is removed from the testing station for repair and returned for retest within 10 working days, then only a partial retest is needed and a partial retest fee may be charged".

It's really down to the Garage/ Test Station whether or not to charge for the retest after the 10 days

For more info go to the VOSA website www.vosa.gov.uk
or by calling the VOSA Contact Centre on 0300 123 9000

Hope this helps,
All the best, Greg

Well done

Was it a full test?
And was it full charge, part charge or was it waived

Can't pick up car until this evening, will let you know then - bet it wasn't waived....

Might have guessed - full re-test, full fee!

....slightly tempered by a forthcoming bill for welding, new king pins, fitting bushes and two tests. Sad

it should be a full test but depends on the tester and how many miles the car has done since failure and representing it for a retest
