Alongside my 1946 Morris ten, I also run a BSA B40. It is an ex Auxiliary Fire Service bike. It was never used by them, just sitting it storage until the government sold many of then off in 1972.
This one was run until the mid 1980s when the owner came home one evening after freezing his *uts off. It was parked at the back of a garage and left.
2 years ago i was offered it for a fair price, and me being an ex fireman liked its origins.
Home in the back of a van, carb cleaned and filled with petrol and instead of a battery it had a battery charger attached and wooooo 2nd kick it ran.
So all I did was fit a new battery, change the oil and filter, fitted a new horn and it seemed OK. OK enough to pass it's MOT that afternoon.
I have done little to it, the biggest expense was a new seat. And it has done me proud for the last few years.
Attached is a picture of it on the Eastbourne Lions charity run last year outside Herstmonceux Castle near Eastbourne.
