Good day to all

Found the distributor so tight i am surprised the drive lug did not twist off. Once free, replaced one spring on a centrifugal weight, set point gap and thanks to everyones help the timing. On the third crank she fired and ran. Although running, she pops intermittently on an idle and splutters a lot when reving and driving. Can feel the motor holding back. The carb has been completely cleaned and blown out and a new throttle butterfly shaft put in. at time she wants to die and the only way to save it is by pulling the start jet in the cab. Am i correct in thinking either the main or compensating jet is starving the engine. Have put marks on the block and crank pulley and confirmed with a timing light that the spark advance is operational.

Will persist.

It does sound like a problem with the main jet, or possibly with the emulsion block. Sometimes a leak on the pipe that goes to the vacuum wiper, from the union on the exhaust manifold, can make it run too lean.

Check the height of the float, this is important.

Hi

Is the float height at all adjustable in a Zenith 26 V series carb? There is a gasget between the emulsion block and the bowl. Should there also be a gasget between the emulsion block and the carb body when the bowl is attached as there currently is not one? I have a diagram for a 26 carb with an air mixture screw on the side of the carb. The carb on the vehicle has this screw on top of the carb between the two screws that hold the bowl into place. Is there any 'standard' setting for this screw. Is this purely a slow idle or does it also affect high revs.

Thanks

Terry

Hi

Got the motor running quite well. Had a problem with air leakage into carb. Found a poor fit between the side of the bowl and the carb body. With the bowl tightened into place, the fit against the body was poor. Touching at the top and almost 1/2 mm gap at the bottom. Closed the gap with a gasget cement and problem virtually eliminated.

As there is no 'pump' on the carb, i would assume that a too fast a depression of the accelerator will cause a flat spot/lag in acceleration.

Thanks again for the assistance.

I had a look at an old Zenith carb and there is no way to check the float height Rolling Eyes . The only way you can see is by inspection of the parts. ie is there a dent in the float or maybe excessive wear on the float valve.
