On a recent visit to London I spent some time in the Science Museum and some at Brooklands. The Science Museum visit was to try and photograph their 18" SS Jaguar model, which whilst not totally accurate is impressive in its detail both inside and out.
It's located in the gallery of the now renamed "Making the Modern World"
I always like a visit to the aircraft on the top floor.
Yes, this was an aero engine! It's one of the Beardmore diesels that propelled the ill fated R101.
I had hoped to see the Napier Railton at Brooklands but apparently it was away for its MOT on the day I visited. Whitney Straight's Duesenburg was there though.
The track was beautifully deserted. Only ghosts on the bankings and test hill.

Brooklands looks a lot quieter than when I was last there! (Austin/Morris day)
Love the photos of the Science Museum. One place in London I have never been.

Thanks guys for your replies. Whilst I didn't see the Napier Railton at Brooklands they did have a simulator that allowed you to test your driving (steering) skill around the old track. You sit in a modern single seater whose simulation doesn't require you to use much of the high bankings. I am useless at driving these simulations and this attempt was no exception. They then alter the paramters to simulate the Napier Railton. By comparison this has absolutely no grip and if you loose it then it doesn't respond well to opposite lock. Needless to say I was even more abysmal at this but it was interesting none the less.

Simulators are always much more difficult than the real thing. I taught myself to fly on my PC then tried the real thing, easy, even landed it first flight. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

Thanks John. There certainly are lots of fascinating transport exhibits between these two venues.
Here's the dashboard of Miss England.
and another dash from your stable.

Perhaps it was Jules Holland looking for bits to make his look more authentic |

Hi Steve,
I don't think Jools was the culprit. He was happy with a fairly approximate recreation. Vertical dash as in the saloon and somewhat different instrument set.
