Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what the below car could possibly be, even a brand would be a good start.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Bill,

Are you sure it's an American car? It looks more British to me. It is clearly in use in Britain from the tax disc and SG is an Edinburgh series running from 1920 up to June 1924.

The radiator looks similar to a Standard although I don't think this is the make.

Peter.

It's actually a Belgian Minerva.

I can do some more digging to find the model, but I suspect it's the AC, a five and a half litre 6 cylinder sleeve valve engined luxury car.

Very prestigious now, and then!

Thanks. It could be British but I was told that the guy in the picture, who was a millionaire, used to import his cars from America which would come with right hand drive.

I tried to track the reg through Edinburgh City Council but they told me that all the records for this period were destroyed in the 1970s.

Built in Antwerp, Minerva had a UK branch and distribution network at this time , so quite probably bought from a Scottish agent, rather than specially imported.

Thanks. A Belgian Minerva would fit well. He could certainly afford it and I am told that he loved nice cars. Looks like my info on it being an American car was wrong.

As far as I am aware the picture was taken in the early 1920's - would be good to pin down the model if poss.

Thanks again

I have done a bit of digging and the closest picture I can find is a 1928 Minerva AK. It doesn't have the split screen but the rest of it is pretty close.

The AK wasn't inroduced until 1928, so it isn't that. I notice that the car has front wheel brakes, which would put it very much to the later part of the 1920 to 1924 window that the registration number suggests.

Various model names were used, but basically they had a 20CV and a 30CV model (laterally known as the AC), but which one I really couldn't say.

Thanks. I thought the AK was too late but it was the only photo I could find with the side lights and spotlights. However I am happy that I now know that it is an early 20's Minerva.
