|
|
News of a vintage trailer that needs rescuing and restoring.
This page features examples of the pre-war D-B range: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/dixon-bate.htm
Details:
--------------
I have an old car trailer to dispose of, sadly now in poor condition but I do remember it in pristine condition when I was a child 50 years ago!. Most metal parts including 10 spoke artillery wheels Ok I think; but wooden floor (not original) rotten, the slatted sides and tailgate are probably the originals. The towing ball was changed to a hitch also the rubber covered tail light I remember is lost.
There is a picture of it on the website from the pre WW2 Dixon-Bate catalogue.
I would be grateful if you could pass this info to anybody who might be interested in buying the trailer for restoration. It is currently in Essex.

Maldon/Tiptree area going by the phone number. Perfect for Roger-hatchy then
Any idea how much he wants for it? _________________ Richard Hughes

Forgot the camera
Bit too big for my little car.
BUT it needs someone to take it on.
Needs the timbers renewing, well the floor definitely, side might get away with a paint replacement jobby.
From what I could see it looks like a nut and bolt assembly so wouldn't be too hard a referb, don't think it would need welding as it seems good and sollid.
with !9 inch wheel rims my little thing would be lost in front of it.
Still got the makers plate, I think it was 1932, needs a new tow hitch and lights / light board.
Would be best collected on a trailer, or pickup.
I'll contact him and see if he is agreeable for me to call again with the camera |

There is a lovely little old wooden trailer on artillery wheels a few doors down that's been used as a flower pot for years. It will definitely need restoring, but might be small enough to go behind the DLM. I'll have to get some pictures _________________ Richard Hughes |

Some photos of the trailer, and plate.
Having had another look it might be possible to "Flatpack" the trailer.
It looks like the 'A' Frame and front bulkhead could be removed, the sides removed and the same for the axle and wheels, the rear is a drop in gate.
As to the wheels/hubs, they are on roller bearings and they spin freely.

That is lovely. Shame it's too big for the DLM. Is it towable as it stands? _________________ Richard Hughes |

Hi Rchard
Don't think it would be advisable, it has stood for a number of years and the tyres are questionable.
No light, but a light board would do.
He dose have a few boat trailers - launching trailers that it fits on.
Might be persuaded etc.
Mind you we do see worse condition behind some tractors out in the sticks.
BTW he is in Tollesbury, not too far from Maldon / Tiptree. |

On one hand I'd love to take it on as I love old things and it's not too far away, but on the other hand it needs a lot of work. And it would only get dumped in the garden if I bought it
Here are some pictures of the one down the road from me:
