Maybe I should change my forum name to Heath Robinson with this stuff but it may be vaguely helpful to someone and,if not,at least bring a smile to a few faces.
Without going into detail, my Volvo 120 was rear ended while stationary by a White Van Man,destroying the offside rear lights and seriously damaging the rear wing too.I wanted a chap in Dundee to do the work but,being in Northumberland,without rear lights,indicators etc.made this seem unlikely.Being a" careful "Scot the thought of the cost of trailering it North made me unwell!The remaining brain cell sprung into action as a result.I have a towbar on my estatewhich had escaped damage so I got hold of a trailer board,plugged it in and had rear lights,indicators etc and arear number plate.Drove North without drama!
Another bonus.I realised, by using the tow bar socket,I could connect a plug there,picking up the indicator pins,wire to a flasher relay and I would have hazard lights in an emergency.(none on the Volvo)

Hi

Not a bad idea if you have no flashing idicators on your classic, you could wire a circuit up, so the plug is avaiable, meaning when on certain busy roads, should you want flashers etc, you can plug your trailer board in. The plug need not be visible to everyone.

Now that suggests an interesting dodge. If the two flasher terminals in a spare trailer plug are linked (jumped) together, then with the plug in, ignition on and the flasher switch moved either way all the car flashers should flash together. With a non-load sensitive flasher unit, anyway. Mind it might be a good idea to pull the ignition coil wire off!

Hmmm. My Gentry is suddenly going to have hazard flashers!

Hello Jim,
That is exactly what I did.I think B.B.thought Ihad done it in conjunction with the trailer board but it was just an idea Ihad following on from that caper.I am delighted if I have been able to help you for a change,instead of the other way round.
I haven't patented this gizmo,yet,but one chap thought it might be one for the Dragons'Den,so I hope a few chaps will be able to benefit from this item.Like you I think disconnecting wire is a sensible precaution
