As an newbie to caravanning you will have to excuse my heavy use of this forum This time I'm looking for hints and tips from the knowledgeable regarding keeping the so very vital sausages and bacon nice and fresh over the course of an long weekend. I don't want an full blown fridge but the 24/30 lt cool boxes look good. Is it worth getting the 12v electric or will the old fashioned ice pack type do. Recommendations much appreciated.

Thanks Brian, I am hoping others on here may also add their experiences. I know its only an cool box but its got to do an important job. mILK, SAUSAGES AND BACON ALL SMELLY WITH RANK BUTTER i DONT WANT.

We tried a 12v cool box when we 1st got our Nyala but found it not very good , a friend of ours had a gas fridge which fitted perfectly into the cupboard next to the sink no more probs .

I have several methods of cooling my food (and more importantly the beers).
I too have a 12V cool box that works so well and also an old fashioned ice box...
it has been known to chill cats very well

but works really well for foods and drink alike


You just put lots of ice in the bottom (or cool bag ice blocks, but works better with normal ice cubes) and pop your food in then pack with more ice. the lid seals well and keeps everything very cold for a couple of days. I've had ice left in the bottom after a long weekend jaunt at times!
They can be expensive but I got mine shipped over from the US for a bargain

you can still get the old style evaporation fridges just add water to cool, the problem is you have to start them away a couple of days before you need them but they do work are very light to transport and pople say whats that

I am refreshing my old thread topic to see if anybody else may have a view.
My cool box is not very good for more than 24 hours and so I will need to sort something for the new season.

I have just bought a new type of coolbox from Towsure of sheffield but to date have not tried it out yet.
Its made by Coleman and it is 14''x14''x 26'' long and rated at 34 litres and is said to hold 46 cola cans and costs around £50.
The info says it has new technology insulation which is 2''thick all round and will keep food cool for upto five days
Iam sure it will be worth having a look at on the Towsure website (under coolboxes)
I will let you know how I get on with it.

Just a few more bits of info on the Coleman coolbox.
Its called the Coleman 'Extreme'.
It dosnt need electrics or gas--- its all to do with the high tech. insulation.

Thanks for tip Yorkshire van man, I will have a look at the website. The cool-box I used last year was OK but am looking for something that stays cold for longer. Be interested in your feed back.

Sounds quite good that if it works as well as it claims. I am going to need a new one soon, mine seems to be full of stuff in the garage stuff like spanners, caravan lights towrope etc.. not ideal for food and beer now
