Hi all i went to the cromford steam rally today,it was really nice there was some classic caravans.I got talking to a man who got a 1934 caravan,made the same as mine in hardboard.I asked him what he painted it with and he said good quality 5 year guarentee gloss now what do you think.Thanks

we had some one in the club that painted his with dulux weathershield he watered it down a bit so that it would brush on - the finish did not look that bad

good old weathersheild,My stirling has been wearing it for just over 5 yrs now and it still shines, I put a drop off celly thinners in it so that it will spray and do mine that way, but if you put to much in it will jell and react. the other thing with weathershield though is that it has verry little or no uv protection in it so a good quality car polish is essential to slow the faiding prosses down. also I will get you Dereck's phone number with the trailor tent that ovm mentioned as soon as I can catch up with him, Just to ask him if its allright to forward his number to you. :Nich

Just a thought would celly paint be any good.or synthetic sorry about the spelling

personaly I would use a good oil based paint or synthetic, as you never know what paint is underneath on a older caravan and you know how celulosse can react for the slightest reason with even the smallest amount of old oil or synthetic paint, but thats just me. you can allways brush or spray a couple of coats of ronseal clear yatch varnish over the whole lot when you have finished. I have done this several times and ronseal remains flexable for years so flexes with a caravan , weather to two tone or not is entierly up to you if your not sure put a picture up on the forum and i bet someone out there has the technology or softwear to colour it in for you in a variaty of colours and styles, so you can see what it would looklike with out comiting yourself . I will be using synthetic enamel on our Car Crusier, admit its ali paneled, but they flex quite a bit and SE can take it and as been said already it can go on top of pretty much any other type of paint. the shine is excellent from the spray gun and keeps that shine just a polish now and again.

I used an synthetic enamel coach paint and am very pleased with result. Its now had an couple of applications of soft wax and jobs an good'un.
