I'd be looking at gearing to be honest, before worrying about producing more bhp. The rear axle is a fair bit lower than contemporary Pops and Prefects (not interchangeable with E83Ws either). I'm told that some early V8 saloon diff components can be persuaded into an E83W rear axle housing, to raise the back axle ratio a bit, but I've not seen it done.
As for Aquaplane, I wasn't much impressed with a new repro setup I had on a Prefect once.

Great idea! The carb that is. Certainly will not cause any harm, whether you fabricate an adaptor or a manifold is up to you.
The reality, in the cold light of day though, please consider this.
Do not change a single component away from standard on a motor until it runs perfectly as it was meant too, unless you are a thoroughly competent and experienced mechanic.
Exhaust heat to the manifold is very important, do not be tempted to make a manifold without it.
Put me down as a fan of the idea!
