This car has been off the road since the owner passed away in 1975,he did not use it in the wet weather,he had a free bus pass(bus driver in Leicester)which he used when the weather was bad.
The mileage is approx 51,000.
The only bit of corrosion is to the offside lower wing, minor repair, and the front bumper has lost its chrome, which is strange as the rest of the chromework is perfect?
The car is absolutely rust free and all original, everything works, even the period parking light which clips to the drivers window.
The Austin stitched in footmat is unworn.
In the boot are the original tools, jack and small service items.
I am only giving the car a thorough clean and polish, and the mechanicals serviced,it will be preserved as a timewarp car, everything will be kept as is, minor worts and all.
I prefer these to restored models,it has a lovely patina, smell and feel.
I have started to give the car a good clean and polish,it has responded well,I can post some further photo`s if anyone is interested.

The accelerator pedal is sometimes referred to as 'the loud pedal' which I think is very apt in that garage! _________________ Keep Torqueing,

I think those KL heaters were around in the mid fifties,I have one in the Hillman Minx Californian 1956.
To think they were an optional extra.
The A30 only has one wing mirror, one sunvisor, and screen washers were fitted aftermarket.
As for the organ that was going to the tip, nobody wants them anymore. |

Ah, Austin A30/35 bring back happy memories of my dear old A30, purchased it for forty quid at Rayleigh,Essex and promptly drove it to Barking
to show it off to my girlfriend (now Wife). Four bald tyres, flat spare, burnt oil at one gallon every 100 miles and then managed to get an puncture outside girlfriends house. Had to leave the car parked in the road until next evening whilst girlfriend got flat tyre fixed Drove it Benfleet to Barking three times weekly and it never let me down once in 18 months. Happy days. Looks like your one will also go on for ever. |

What a lovely find, I think leaving it as it is would be the right move. It's funny though the amount of people now seem to prefer to see a vehicle in 'original' condition with the odd scratch, bump wear & tear than a fully restored gleaming example!.....I get told the same thing quite often about my car even if just poodling around town.
.... it, still wearing it's first, factory-fitted coat of paint and by no means mint! |

Just like my first car!Mine had a circular heater, that had 2 little doors on the front(natra?).What is the knob above the accellerator for? That's obviously an aftermarket fitment. |

The knob is a screenwash hand pump.Amazingly it worked first push of the knob,I have messed about for an hour on a more regular used car the evening before an Mot to get the damm thing to work properly.
It even has a parking light connection under the dash, the lamp was clipped to the drivers window when they parked outside a relatives house at night when visiting.I was told.
The front seats where never sat on,they had cushions to sit on which I found in the car.
Very strange some peoples habits,I have seen 45 year old cars with the plastic delivery covers still on the seats, while the rest of the car has rotted away, due to the lack of preventative measures.
The vast majority of cars found in garages, lockups or sheds have suffered while being stored away for many years incorectely, not perhaps suffering so badly during their working life.
I digress.......
When a battery was connected everything worked ,even the horn, now they normally need a tap after sitting around .
The evidence was that the previous owner greased, oiled or vaselined everything, even the brake adjusters moved round prior to removing the brake drums.
I have since purchasing the car, T cut and polished the exterior and interior paintwork, cleaned the seats, hoovered the interior and pressure washed the engine bay and underside.
I will post some photo`s. |
